Surface Devices

Microsoft began taking pre-orders for the next generation Surface devices, Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 last month. The devices were expected to be shipped on Oct 21st on the device launch day. However, if you order the device now, shipping date has been pushed to Oct 25th in the US. Only the $899 64GB Surface Pro 2 is now available with the original shipping date of Oct 21st. And Surface Pro 2 256GB and the 512GB models will be shipped only by December 15th.

Also Type Cover 2 is now available only in Purple as others are out of stock.

Microsoft also announced last week that it is hosting a series of midnight launch events at 10 Microsoft retail stores across the nation to celebrate the launch of Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2. Starting at 10 p.m. local time on Oct. 21, each participating store will host the Surface Challenge, offering contestants in each market a chance to go head-to-head in a series of fun, interactive and sometimes physical games for a chance to be whisked away to Orlando, Fla., the next morning for the Mall at Millenia store opening, where Pitbull will perform.

You can find information about new Surface devices and accessories as well as how to pre-order in your country at www.Surface.com/pre-order.

sales sound a bit messy right now. Not surprised if not everyone will be able to get a second generation surface this year. I think things will pick up after CES 2014.

Hopefully im getting one at work, but we cant order anything atm, have to wait until the end of November. If I cant get one by the end of the year im going to be pissed. I mean how big demand for this could there really be?

Surface pro 2 looks like the ultra portable of choice this time around they are still holding back on official battery life expectancy for some reason though.

I think that is an issue in its self… People see Surface as a ultra portable laptop while buyers are buying tablets

I think they’ve been pretty clear on battery. A 50% increase, so depending on use case scenario, anywhere between 6 – 8 hours.

If you need more battery life, grab a power cover, which will extend it to 10 – 12 hours.
