Another Microsoft Surface gets run over–I’m starting to see a pattern here

There must be something about the Microsoft Surface that makes its users rather distracted. It may be the perfectly balanced design of the blissful confidence of having a full-power computer always at your beck and call, but it seems Surface owners often forget they are carrying it, and therefore leaves the device in harm’s way.

The latest victim Robbbilicious’s Surface, that was also left on top of his car, where it subsequently fell off and was run over at 60 mph.

He writes:

Each car passed by with the tires on each side of the Surface until the very last car. The tire of the car ran completely over the Surface and next thing I saw was my brand new $700 tablet and touch cover flying through the air in separate directions! My heart jumped, and so did I! I jumped out of my car and ran across the street to first grab the tablet, then the Surface, and then my phone which of course fell out of my lap during all this. I jumped back in my car just before 60 mph traffic made its way to me!

As can be seen above, while the device did not escape unscathed from the ordeal, it did survive fully functional, with just enough scars to remind Rob not to be so careless in the future.

Lets learn from the example of our fellow Surface owners and look after our tablets a bit better – two Road Traffic Accidents are surely enough?

About the same amount of damage I’ve seen on iPads after dropping them 2ft onto a hard floor. I think Surface people subconsciously want to prove just how much better the Surface fares. AS LONG AS IT’S NOT MY SURFACE, hee hee.

I think Oprah should have called the Surface a Hummer or Land Rover instead of a Mercedes!

Ha, just sent you this but I guess you already saw it.

Surface will go down in history as the 3310 of tablets!

This is a great story and a testament to the Surface’s durability, but I still wonder what would possess someone to put anything on the roof of their car.

    • GG002

I put stuff on my car’s roof all the time when I take off my coat. I don’t like driving with my coat on. I can totally see other people doing the same or having similar habits!

      • Wyn6

I put everything into my car first if I have to do something outside of the car, never the roof. I also never keep my phone in my lap while driving. I keep either in the a cup holder or passenger seat. Trust me… these are practices that come from experience. 😉

        • GG002

Experience doesn’t have anything to do with it, it’s just habits that you don’t think about. Of course there are persons like you who really put your back into doing it properly, but let me enlighten you: not everyone is like you.

          • Wyn6

I think you misunderstand what I mean by experience and perhaps it wasn’t real clear. What I was saying is… due to bad experiences with leaving things on top of the car or keeping phones in my lap while driving, I’ve learned not to do this.
So, the reason I do things the way I do them now is because of previous mishaps. My statement was only to say that I’ve now learned my lesson.
