We have seen fingerprint scanners in portable systems since last decade. Lot of laptops and nowadays even smartphone embeds this technology for user authentication. Fujitsu is now trying to replace this fingerprint scanners with Palm Vein sensors in its business laptops in coming months. It almost looks like the fingerprint scanner, but the main difference is that you don’t have to touch it. You should place your palm above the sensor as you can see in the image above to authenticate your device. Also this system requires a live hand to make the authentication, so someone can’t cut off your hand and use it for unlocking your device. Fujitsu believes that palm vein sensing is around a thousand times more secure than conventional biometric methods. Hopefully, we will see them in more devices in the future. Source: Engadget ...

Microsoft ended all those reports by adding Xbox One logo at the bottom as you can see in the image above. The last major version of Microsoft’s graphics platform DirectX 11 was announced about 6 years back. Since then the desktop graphics API development has stagnated. Microsoft yesterday released bunch of new themes and wallpapers for your Windows device. All these themes and wallpapers are free to download from Microsoft. Our Ireland theme contains gorgeous landscapes from the Emerald Isle – and a sound-scheme based on traditional Celtic music. As legend has it, if you can find the end of the rainbow, you might discover a leprechaun’s secret hoard of gold. The golden coins remain hidden in our Rainbows theme, but all the vivid colors of the spectrum are on full display in rainbows shining over landscapes from Wales to Madagascar.   For those interested in a single-image experience, try this dramatic new wallpaper in which a rainbow arcs over the lush green Irish landscape, from photographer Michael Poecki. I think it looks great as a Windows 8.1 lock screen. Check out the Personalization Gallery for more new themes and wallpapers to keep your Windows PC ...

Microsoft research was then working on gesture based search where a user will be drawing some gestures on the screen based on which search results will appear. A user draws two circles in the search window of a smartphone. In a moment, a bicycle and a bundle of apples appear on the screen, among other things with round shapes. This is Microsoft’s next-generation search technology called “gesture,” which enables automatic search of relevant information by drawing only; no word entry on a keyboard is necessary. Microsoft Research even claimed that the technological development of gesture search is almost complete and will be seen on mobile and PCs, but it didn’t materialize as expected. Today, a Microsoft’s patent titled “SEARCHING AT A USER DEVICE” describes the exact implementation on Windows tablets. This patent describes the technology how ...
