Microsoft is showcasing some enterprise customers who are deploying Microsoft Surface and German bank Volksbank Mittelhessen is the latest one to join the list. Volksbank chose Microsoft Surface over Apple iPad because of the full Office suite availability and other enterprise uses that focuses on productivity. Microsoft recently announced renaming its cloud storage service SkyDrive to OneDrive after trademark lawsuit with British satellite broadcaster BSkyB over the name. While there was a overwhelmingly positive response to OneDrive name, Microsoft might still face some trademark suits in different countries where OneDrive name is already in use. Last June Microsoft announced that it would be hosting a limited, exclusive developer preview program for Kinect for Windows v2 prior to its general availability in the summer (northern hemisphere) of 2014. And two months ago, Kinect for Windows v2 Developer Preview kits were shipped to thousands of developers in the program from London to Tokyo. Speaking to The Guardian, UK Cabinet Office minister Francis Maude revealed that UK government is planning to switch its productivity suite from Microsoft Office to some Open source solutions. UK government spends tens of millions of pounds a year to Microsoft and other software companies for using their software and they are looking to cut those costs. He believes that costs would come down by switching to software which can produce open-source files in the “open document format” (ODF), such as OpenOffice and Google Docs. Xbox Fitness is a fitness training program available on Xbox One platform. It used Kinect 2.0 to deliver personalized program recommendations based on your workout history and past performance. While Xbox 360 used used a library of 200 captured moves to track performance, Xbox Fitness uses a catalog of more than 2,000 moves. It is more accurate than ever. This online tool allows Office 365 partners to manage their Office 365 customers.  So far, there was  Partner tools in the Office 365 admin center, which allows you to do delegated administration tasks on behalf of customers and create trial invitations, purchase offers, and offers for delegated administration. But with the new tool, you can do more. Digitimes today reported that Samsung will no longer launch conventional notebook models except few Chromebooks in 2015. Essentially, they are ending their R&D on new Windows laptops while they continue to sell their existing models. Samsung had a strong growth in Windows laptops segment 2 years back, but since then it has lost its game with Lenovo and decreasing consumer demand for laptops. Samsung Electronics has set a goal of shipping seven million notebooks globally in 2014, a reduction of 41.67% from the 12 million units shipped in 2013, and will no longer launch conventional notebook models except Chromebooks in 2015, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers. Samsung aimed to ship 17 million notebooks in 2013 but actually shipped 12 million units, the sources said. Microsoft today announced that they are joining Open Compute Project (OCP) founded by Facebook. OCP is a community focused on engineering the most efficient hardware for cloud and high-scale computing via open collaboration. Microsoft also announced that they are contributing Microsoft cloud server specification to the OCP. Microsoft cloud server specifications are the designs for the most advanced server hardware in Microsoft datacenters delivering global cloud services like Windows Azure, Office 365, Bing and others. Microsoft Bing announced the launch of Bing.com/awards, an awards season resource guide for consumers last month. It offers an interactive look at the 2014 award season including Golden Globes, the Grammy’s and the Oscars. Microsoft then said that the site will be updated periodically as the award season progresses. As Grammys 2014 got over yesterday, Bing.com/awards has now highlighted some performances from the event. The night was kicked off by a glamorous red carpet and one of the biggest color trends of the night was metallic.
