Default zoom has been changed from 100% in windows 8, to 125% in windows 8.1. IE selects a default zoom based on the DPI and expected viewing distance of the device to optimize for consistent readability across form factors and display densities. Microsoft today opened up the new improved Windows Store in Windows 8.1. Also the Windows Store is now open for submitting apps targeting Windows 8.1 by the developers. For the developers who started working on their app with the preview versions of Windows, they will first need to update their Preview environment to today’s release versions of Windows 8.1 and Visual Studio 2013. Packages built on prerelease versions won’t be accepted into the Store. The new Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro is now available for order from Lenovo. The new Yoga 2 Pro is thinner(15mm thick) and lighter (1.39kg) than the previous models. The Yoga 2 Pro will come up to Intel’s 4th generation Core i7 U series processors. The main highlight is the 13.3-inch IPS 178° wide angle, 16:9 QHD+ 10 point touchscreen, that has a screen resolution of 3200 x 1800. Google today announced that they are extending the support for Chrome browser on Windows XP till April 2015. Microsoft is ending the support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014 which means that it will no longer receive updates and security patches. Since unpatched browser bugs are often used by malware to infect computers, Google is extending support for Chrome on Windows XP, and will continue to provide regular updates and security patches until at least April 2015. We recognize that hundreds of millions of users, including a good chunk of current Chrome users, still rely on XP. We all know that Microsoft is planning to unify the Windows OS and Windows Phone OS sometime in the future. While most of us were expecting it happen soon, ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley today reported some information on the timing on when it will happen. According to her report, Microsoft is expected to deliver a major Windows release in the Spring of 2015 which will be a unified OS combining Windows Phone OS and Windows OS. Also the unified Windows Store is expected in the same time frame. She also reported some information on how Microsoft will move forward with Windows Phone OS and Windows RT for 7 inch to 10 inch devices.
