OneNote for Windows 8/RT devices just got updated to support finger painting. As more users expressed the need to be able to draw on the touch devices that do not ship with a pen, this update allows you to draw with your finger! Simply tap the screen, open the radial menu and select “Draw”. From here you can get creative; choose pen colors, customize your thickness, and store these combinations as a ‘favorite’ pen.  Once you are done drawing, open the radial menu and select “Exit Draw”. When the first Windows 8.1 build got leaked last month, we spotted a new app called Movie Moments. Movie Moments screenshots reveals that this Windows 8/RT modern app will have three options; Trim it, Say it, and Share it.  “Trim it” will allow users to edit down videos to their favorite moments of 60 seconds or less. We have already seen Microsoft’s IllumiRoom project via tech demo at CES by Microsoft. There were reports in the last few weeks that Microsoft may release a consumer product based on Microsoft’s research’s IllumiRoom. IllumiRoom augments the area surrounding a television screen with projected visualizations to enhance the traditional living room entertainment experience. IllumiRoom uses a Kinect for Windows camera and a projector to blur the lines between on-screen content and the environment we live in allowing us to combine our virtual and physical worlds. For example, our system can change the appearance of the room, induce apparent motion, extend the field of view, and enable entirely new game experiences. Windows 8.1 build leaks continues. Yesterday, a new Windows 8.2 build 9385 got leaked on the web. So far only images of the build running on a PC is public, and expect the ISO on P2P networks in next few days. Windows 8.1 is expected to have Start Button back in the task bar and so far we have not seen any references about it in the leaked builds. Microsoft was always criticized for not utilizing their R&D well enough to make them into marketable products.   Strategy Analytics today posted their global tablet shipments numbers. As expected, Apple and Android dominated the market like last year. But there is a new 3rd player in the race, Microsoft. Microsoft released Windows 8 which has a radical new UI optimized for touch last October. OEM partners started shipping Windows 8 based tablets last October and the sales was limited by poor retail availability. In 2013, many Windows 8 touch devices went on sale across the globe and we can see the results in the above chart. Microsoft has got 7.5% of the market with 3 million Windows tablets shipping in Q1 2013.
