Today at MWC, Microsoft detailed the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Over 100,000 changes have been made since developer preview release and Microsoft is improving the code everyday. Microsoft said that Windows 8 will allow hardware manufacturers to innovate on form factors as we saw some of them during CES. New People hub similar to Windows Phone to organize contacts across services like Windows Live, Google, etc,. Microsoft also demoed the new Messaging hub similar to Windows Phone where you can IM people on Facebook, Windows Live Messenger and more. Microsoft today released the final version of Microsoft Flight game for Windows users. The game can be downloaded for free from Games for Windows client. The game will also feature paid add-on content such as full islands of Hawaii and two additional planes. Microsoft recommends 3-GHz, dual-core processor, at least a Radeon HD 5670 or Nvidia GeForce 9800T graphics card or better, 6GB of RAM, and 30GB of hard-drive space to play this game. Illumishare allows us to share a physical physical or digital objects with others. How it does it ? IllumiShare uses a camera-projector pair where the camera captures video of the local workspace and sends it to the remote space and the projector projects video of the remote workspace onto the local space. Microsoft Research is back in full form with its futuristic demos. After the Holoflector demo, Microsoft at its annual TechForum conference demoed its work on a concept similar to 3D Desktop. It has the ability to manipulate objects that lie behind the transparent screen – as well as objects on the screen with something called “view-dependent, depth-corrected gaze”. Microsoft Office 15 which is expected to launch later this year along with Windows 8 will come with a mode called “Touch Mode” according to Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet. The “Touch Mode” in Office 15 is a button placed next to quick access toolbar and when enabled will change the Office 15 UI optimized for touch based interactions. Even the Ribbon UI seems to be optimized for touch interactions as you can see in the image above.
