Today, I came across a post from Search Engine Land reporting about Bing App linking. Even though Microsoft has about offering since March, many developers are now aware of this feature on Windows platforms yet. Here is how it works, Bing just released a new app-linking feature that allows you to link your Windows and Windows Phone apps to web search results.  By surfacing app links alongside web search results, app linking helps boost discoverability and engagement of your apps.  If you’re a travel provider, for example, and on-board your Windows Phone app to the Bing app-linking feature, anyone who looks up “paris hotels” on Windows Phone would also see your app link alongside relevant search results for your website. With one click, users can then deep link to the content about Paris hotels in your app or, if the app isn’t installed on the device, users can easily install ...

After releasing Chrome 64-bit in developer and canary channels, Google has released Chrome 64-bit as a stable release. This new 64-bit Chrome offers many benefits for speed, stability and security over 32-bit version. Based on their measurements, a native 64-bit version of Chrome has improved speed on many of their graphics and media benchmarks. For example, the VP9 codec that’s used in High Definition YouTube videos shows a 15% improvement in decoding performance. Stability measurements from people opted into our Canary, Dev and Beta 64-bit channels confirm that 64-bit rendering engines are almost twice as stable as 32-bit engines when handling typical web content. Finally, on 64-bit, our defense in depth security mitigations such as Partition Alloc are able to far more effectively defend against vulnerabilities that rely on controlling the memory layout of objects. At this point 64-bit will remain opt-in, so to take advantage of the improvements click on ...

A new Microsoft Research project was revealed earlier this month which is going to make all the GoPro videos captured with a helmet camera during activities such as rock climbing or bicycling more watchable than ever. You can’t watch the video of someone climbing a mountain from a first person perspective, when you watch it in 10x speed, it will become too shaky. At high speed-up rates, simple frame sub-sampling coupled with existing video stabilization methods does not work, because the erratic camera shake present in first-person videos is amplified by the speed-up. Microsoft’s Hyperlapse project tried to fix this issue. Today, Facebook announced Hyperlapse from Instagram, a new app to capture high-quality time lapse videos even while in motion. Hyperlapse from Instagram features built-in stabilization technology that lets you create moving, handheld time lapses that result in a cinematic look, quality and feel—a feat that has previously only been possible with ...
