Microsoft today detailed the upcoming Fresh Paint app for Windows 8.1 devices that is coming on Oct 18th. The new Fresh Paint features watercolor support, a new graphite pencil set, new ways to work with photos and a new modern user interface. Microsoft has also made improvements to stylus pressure, more realistic rendering for watercolor. The exciting part of the update is the ability to make high quality canvas prints. Lenovo is working on a Yoga Windows tablet that will have some new form factor in which it will have two small stands on the sides. Lenovo posted on its teaser page that ”It’s time for a tablet that can hold its own.” Earlier Lenovo SVP and head of China, Chen Xudong, on Sina Weibo confirmed that Lenovo is launching this tablet in Oct and the teaser site has confirmed the Oct 30th data. Microsoft’s board has officially appointed a committee to select the successor to Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer. According to the report from Bloomberg, Microsoft’s board is working toward selecting the successor by the end of this year. Also the board is narrowing its CEO choices after preliminary interviews. It also reports that some candidates like EBay CEO John Donahoe have declined to be considered for the post said two people. The board has also solicited advice from Silicon Valley veterans such as Charles Giancarlo, a former Cisco Systems Inc. executive and now a managing director at private-equity firm Silver Lake, said other people with knowledge of the matter. Microsoft is offering an attractive deal for the OEMs to promote Windows Store and the apps listed in it. If OEMs want to promote Windows Store and its apps in a really good way, they need to have touchscreens on the PCs which I think is Microsoft’s  goal for this program. If the OEM becomes a Windows Store partner, it will be able to receive 5% of net receipts earned through sales of Windows Store apps purchased from the Windows Store on OEM Activation (OA) 3.0-enabled, Genuine Windows 8.1 PCs that they sell. Similar to how app developers can see their total app downloads and other metrics, OEMs can keep track of total app downloads through their PCs, etc,. Even though Microsoft Surface is available in retail in more than 25 countries, Microsoft didn’t begin selling Surface tablets via commercial resellers. Microsoft announced few authorized resellers for Surface devices in the US in July and then now, Microsoft is expanding the commercial channel availability to 29 markets where Surface is already available in retail. This is a great news for enterprises which often relies on resellers for their device purchases. “As of Oct 1, we have implemented the initial phase of our commercial channel expansion plan, making Surface available commercially in all 29 markets where we are currently in retail.
