At E3 last year, Microsoft showed us a teaser for the upcoming Halo game for Xbox One. The teaser even revealed that the game will be coming in 2014. In an interview to Gamezone, Steve Downes, the voice actor for Halo’s main character Master Chief said that he don’t expect to see Halo 5 until 2015. This is not new, Google is known for violating privacy policies. Recent information from Google’s own lawyers reveled that Google is scanning student’s mail content even when the ads are turned off for better ad targeting. Google is claiming that they are using this data from students to target them with ads. Microsoft has clearly said that they don’t mine user data for ad targeting. Whether or to what degree these last two conditions are actually met by specific services such as Gmail or Outlook.com is of course a pertinent question. Currently Google faces legal challenges to its use of consumer data mining in both the U.S. and the European Union. EU data protection authorities in particular have determined that Google fails to inform consumers properly of its conduct or obtain their consent, while a major class action law suit in California advances similar accusations. Although Outlook.com appears to have avoided ...

Microsoft today announced that they are starting the roll-out of February system update for Xbox One customers. As you already know, this update includes several new improvements such as the ability to see and manage your storage space, ability to use your USB keyboard,  and more. For the vast majority of Xbox One owners who use “Instant On” (the low power state that allows you to instantly power up your console by saying “Xbox On”), the console automatically checks for updates when customers turn it off. This means now that we’ve made the February update available, the next time you turn your console off it will take the update during off-peak hours in your local time. All that to say, never fear you’ll see it sometime over the weekend. As a reminder, here are some of the features you’ll see in this update: The ability to see and manage your ...

After the release of a new OS version, Microsoft usually continues to sell the previous OS version for a particular period of time. For example, even after the release of Windows 7, Microsoft continued to sell Windows Vista for more than a year. After the release of Windows 8, Microsoft was expected to end the sales of Windows 7 by this year. According to the updated Windows product lifecycle page, Microsoft will end the sales of Windows 7 Home Basic, Home Premium and Ultimate pre-installed machines by October 2014. However, Microsoft is not ending the sales of Windows 7 Professional this year. This means that Windows OEMs can continue to sell Windows 7 Pro devices to the enterprises even after Oct 2014. This will enable the enterprise customers who still want to buy devices running Windows 7 instead of Windows 8. What do you think? Read more about it here. ...

With the Windows 8.1 Update 1, Microsoft is updating Internet Explorer 11 with a new feature called Enterprise mode. The new Enterprise mode feature will allow users to run internal apps and websites in a special mode that will maintain the compatibility. Mary Jo Foley explained this feature as below, Enterprise Mode for IE (EMIE), as it’s referred to internally, is supposedly going to be a new feature of IE11. According to my sources, EMIE will allow businesses to specify which sites should be loaded in IE8 compatibility mode and which don’t need it. Users who need IE8 to view certain intranet sites and internal apps would still be able to move to IE11 on Windows 7 (or Windows 8.x) thanks to the new compatibility mode functionality. Speaking at Goldman Sachs Technology & Internet Conference today, Microsoft’s Executive Vice President of Marketing Tami Reller revealed that Microsoft has sold over 200 million Windows 8 licenses since its launch in October 2012. Previously, Microsoft announced the sales numbers of Windows 8 in May 2013 when 100 million milestone was reached. It took about 8 more months to double the numbers. About 240 million licenses of Windows 7 were sold in its first 12 months, compared to 200 million licenses of Windows 8 in 15+ months. The decline in sales rate is due to various factors. First, PC market in general is in decline. Second, Windows 7 came after not so well received product called Windows Vista. Microsoft is on track to deliver Windows 8.1 Update 1 in April to the consumers and Tami told the following in the conference, “more rapid cadence” on which the Windows team has ...
