Their room at the Microsoft Briefing Center was filled to its 950-person capacity twice a day for five days as Lipner and his team worked their way through. Bill Gates’ trustworthy computing memo was the turning point in Microsoft’s history to focus on software security. ...

Microsoft Research’s Future Social Experiences Labs (FUSE Labs) today announced their latest project called HereHere. This project focuses on driving hyperlocal, real-world engagement to encourage civic discourse. HereHere’s goals are to study how characterization can be a tool for data engagement. At the same time, researchers want to understand what sort of light, daily rituals are effective for connecting people to hyperlocal issues, as well as how to create compelling stories with data that can engage larger communities. “HereHere NYC introduces daily neighborhood engagement with a light touch,” London says. “It takes neighborhood-specific public data, and it enables the neighborhoods to communicate how they’re doing—expressed through text and cartoonlike icons. As part of “One Microsoft” strategy, Microsoft recently unified the marketing team across the company. Today, Adweek reported that Microsoft is planning to overhaul its approach to marketing by shifting from product-specific ads to broader consumer and business-oriented campaigns. Adweek obtained this information from Microsoft’s RFP shared to ad agencies. Microsoft is searching for an agency team that “optimizes talent, creates process and execution efficiencies, and gives Microsoft the best leverage in the marketplace,” the RFP stresses.   We have seen fingerprint scanners in portable systems since last decade. Lot of laptops and nowadays even smartphone embeds this technology for user authentication. Fujitsu is now trying to replace this fingerprint scanners with Palm Vein sensors in its business laptops in coming months. It almost looks like the fingerprint scanner, but the main difference is that you don’t have to touch it. You should place your palm above the sensor as you can see in the image above to authenticate your device. Also this system requires a live hand to make the authentication, so someone can’t cut off your hand and use it for unlocking your device. The golden coins remain hidden in our Rainbows theme, but all the vivid colors of the spectrum are on full display in rainbows shining over landscapes from Wales to Madagascar.   For those interested in a single-image experience, try this dramatic new wallpaper in which a rainbow arcs over the lush green Irish landscape, from photographer Michael Poecki. I think it looks great as a Windows 8.1 lock screen. Check out the Personalization Gallery for more new themes and wallpapers to keep your Windows PC ...
