Microsoft today confirmed that they will be releasing Windows 8.1 preview on June 26th during BUILD conference. If you are planning to upgrade from your current Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 preview, you need to be careful. Because, you will have to re-install all the apps you have installed on your PC after upgrading Windows 8.1 to final version which will be released later this year. When the Windows 8.1 preview is made available, Windows 8 and Windows RT users will receive a Windows Update notification. Users can go to Windows Store, read the description and choose whether to install or not. Here is the procedure from upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1 RTM, Even if testers opt instead to roll their devices back to Windows 8 after installing the preview bits, they still will have to reinstall their apps once they move to the RTM version of Windows 8.1. On Windows RT devices, it’s the Windows Store/Metro-Style apps that will have to be reinstalled; for x86-based Windows 8 systems, testers...

Microsoft today revealed the enterprise features/updates that will be part of upcoming Windows 8.1 update. Windows 8.1 is turning out to be a s a significant update for enterprise than for the consumers. There are not just 4-5 major features as we saw on last week’s reveal about consumer features, there are lots more. Just look at the list below! If anyone thinks Android and iOS can replace Windows in the enterprise, just read the below features/improvements coming in Windows 8.1 and compare the same in Android or iOS. From Windows Team Blog, B.Y.O.D (Bring Your Own Device) Enhancements Workplace Join – A Windows 8 PC was either domain joined or not. If it was a member of the domain, the user could access corporate resources (if permissioned) and IT could control the PC through group policy and other mechanisms. This feature allows a middle ground between all or nothing access, allowing a user to work on the device of their choice and still have access to corporate resources. With...

Along with the announcement about sales of 100 million licenses of Windows 8, Microsoft also revealed some details about the upcoming Windows Blue update. One concrete answer from them is that the update will be available later this year. Other than that, they mentioned that the update will enable new form factors and incorporates feedback they got from Windows 8 customers. Brandon LeBlanc: There’s been a lot of speculation about Windows Blue. What can you tell me about it? It will deliver the latest new innovations across an increasingly broad array of form factors of all sizes, display, battery life and performance, while creating new opportunities for our ecosystem.
Microsoft last week launched a program where it will be paying developers upto $2000 for developing Windows Store and Windows Phone Store apps. This program raised some voice in the industry saying that such programs will lead to poor quality of apps filling up the Windows Store. Microsoft responded to this complaints with the following statement to ATD, “We believe the best apps come from those partners who are invested in the platform and own their experience now and in the future,” Microsoft said. ” Of course, we are always working to spark creativity with new developer audiences and sometimes try limited incentives or contests, like Keep The Cash. However, it is not representative of an ongoing program.”

Aviary today launched its Photo Editor SDK for Windows 8 designed for apps on Windows 8 tablets and PCs. Aviary team worked with AMD and Microsoft to build this SDK optimized for AMD APU architectural advantages. We’ve achieved significant performance improvements by implementing filters and effects through the new heterogeneous compute language C++ AMP. Computations are performed on the highly parallel graphics processing unit (GPU) cores inside the AMD APU instead of the more serial central processing unit (CPU) cores. Applying CAMP allows for processing of our complete range of filters and effects instantaneously – on average 16x faster than comparable processors. Aviary Windows 8 SDK will be used by partners like Rowi, Myframes, Memorylage, etc,. Developers can download and use Aviary’s SDK here: http://aviary.com/w8
