Microsoft today announced the availability of Visual Studio Online previously known as Team Foundation Service. Visual Studio Online is made up of collection of developer services, hosted in Azure to offer the best integrated end-to-end development experience for modern applications. Even though Microsoft’s stranglehold in Operating Systems for computing devices has faded over the past few years, Microsoft continues to have a stranglehold on Office productivity suite in the enterprise. According to a recent report from Forrester, more than 85% of respondents continues to use Microsoft Office in their enterprise and the only notable competitor is Google Apps which is few percentage points. One in five firms uses email in the cloud. Another quarter plans to move at some point. More are using Office 365 (14%) than Google Apps (9%). Just 22% of respondents are on Office 2013. Another 36% have plans to be on it. When Microsoft revealed their next generation Surface devices last month, it was evident that Microsoft has changed the branding for Surface RT. Instead of ‘Surface RT’ and ‘Surface Pro’, it is now just ‘Surface 2′ and ‘Surface Pro 2′. It seems Microsoft has dropped the ‘RT’ branding from its second generation Surface to avoid consumer confusion. Microsoft’s product marketing manager for Surface, Jack Cowett revealed that one of the reasons for dropping the ‘RT’ branding was to avoid  consumer confusion. “We think that there was some confusion in the market last year on the difference between Surface RT and Surface Pro. Earlier this week, Microsoft quietly announced that Remote Desktop apps for iOS and Android platforms coming later this month for Windows Server 2012 R2. This is a big news for many enterprise users. iTap is a mobile remote desktop app for iOS devices which was utilizing Microsoft RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) to give you complete control over and fast access to your Windows PC from anywhere. iTap mobile RDP was the only RDP client to support TS Gateway. Compared to other iPhone clients iTap mobile RDP was said to be more than twice as fast as the next best competitor.
