Microsoft is increasing its user based CALs pricing by over 15%. As opposed to Device CAL, User based CAL allows unlimited device access to the server. Here is the statement from Microsoft on the changes in the pricing, “Microsoft recently notified partners about enterprise Client Access Licenses (CALs) changes so they can inform customers about their options before the changes take effect on December 1, 2012. These CAL changes include a user-based option that offers more value in support across unlimited devices and simplifies licensing management and compliance as devices in the workplace proliferate. Pricing for user CALs will change to reflect the increased value. Gartner predicted that 821 million smart devices (smartphones and tablets) will be purchased worldwide in 2012 and it will reach billion mark in 2013. Gartner said the following regarding Windows 8 in businesses by 2016, In the business market, Windows 8 will take the No. 3 position in the tablet market behind Apple and Android by 2016, with interest coming more from businesses than consumers. IDC released a report about PC business shipment growth where it predicts that the second quarter will be a strong one. Also IDC predicts that Windows 8 release which will happen later this year will accelerate PC shipment growth as more consumers are preferring for consumption  devices like iPad. Looking ahead, the PC market will still enjoy pockets of growth, particularly in emerging markets.
