At this year’s E3, Microsoft’s focus was all about games, just games. For the full 90 minutes of press briefing, Microsoft talked about all the first party and 3rd party games coming to Xbox platform. The surprising part was that Microsoft didn’t even talk about games on Windows and Windows Phone platforms. Phil Spencer is the head of gaming at Microsoft, which includes games on Xbox, Windows and Windows Phone platforms. UK based developer Rare Studios is the creative brain behind popular Kinect based titles such as Kinect Sports, Kinect Sports: Season Two and Kinect Sports Rivals still remains an important part of Microsoft despite Microsoft’s decision to unbundle Kinect from Xbox One. Phil Spencer recently said that the studio is independent to chose their next project and they are “evaluating what they want to do next”. Earlier today, we reported that Google is going to acquire Twitch game streaming service for about $1 billion. Twitch is extremely popular among gamers and has over 45 million monthly users. Now, The Verge reports that Twitch chose Google over Microsoft amid multiple buyout offers. They believed that Google’s YouTube would be a greater fit for their strategy as Microsoft may restrict them to Xbox after the deal. Also, they expect Google to help them scale after the acquisition to meet the demands of the gamers. Microsoft and others have made serious approaches to Twitch, said the person, but YouTube was deemed the better fit.
