Samsung Display today announced that they are showcasing a new range of display technologies that will be powering from mobile to large TVs. One interesting thing they revealed was about the next generation notebook displays. Samsung will reveal a 13.3-inch WQXGA+ (3200 x 1800) LCD for notebooks, which each can deliver 30 percent greater power-savings than that of existing LCD tablet displays, by decreasing the number of driver circuits and increasing the efficiency of the LED BLU. Speaking at the earnings report conference, Rene Haas, Nvidia’s VP of computing products told that Nvidia is working on next-generation Tegra 4 processors that will run on Windows RT tablets. “Nvidia is very invested and very committed to Windows RT, and we feel it has a bright future,” said Haas said. “We feel this [platform] is where things are going.” He also revealed that next-generation Tegra 4 processors will run on “multiple” versions of upcoming Windows RT tablets without specifying which OEM will release it and when it will be on sale. Tegra 4 is Nvidia’s next gen chip which has a quad-core system-on-a-chip based on ARM’s Cortex-A15 architecture that has been clocked at 1.9GHz. The device will come with a 1080p Triluminos touchscreen display, with stylus support. According to recent data by NetMarketShare which just started measuring Chromebook usage this month, Chromebook adoption seems very slow even when compared to Windows RT which was criticized for poor sales. For the week of 4/8 – 4/14, ChromeBook has 0.023 percent weighted worldwide usage. Because it rounds to less than 0.1 percent it’s not showing up in our reports. According to ZDNet, as of April 2013 all Chromebooks combined have managed to achieve 7/10 of 1 percent of the usage of Windows 8 PCs worldwide. After nearly two years on the market, Chromebooks have achieved a smaller percentage of usage than Windows RT which was released only few months back on the market. Regarding Kinect Fusion, KinectFusion provides 3D object scanning and model creation using a Kinect for Windows sensor. The user can paint a scene with the Kinect camera and simultaneously see, and interact with, a detailed 3D model of the scene. Microsoft started to sell their first Windows hardware Surface RT back in October last year. Initially the device was available only in Microsoft retail locations in US and then later expanded its availability to other retail stores and countries. Three months after that, Microsoft announced the availability of Surface Pro which is based on Intel Core i5 processor which is available in US alone for now. Bloomberg today reported that Microsoft has sold about a little more than million Surface RT units and 400,000 Surface Pro units since launch.
