Beamatron is a new research project from Microsoft in which virtual objects are projected in physical world.  It’s augmented reality concept that combines a projector and Kinect sensor on a pan tilt moving head – of the kind you may find in a nightclub. The setup utilizes KinectFusion to build a 3D model of a space and enables projected graphics to react in physically appropriate ways. Microsoft today released the final version of Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 4 (RDS 4). Overall quality and stability of the RDS 4 was improved from beta with added support to work with the release version of the Kinect for Windows SDK. Microsoft is working to integrate Kinect into portable computers. According to The Daily, Microsoft currently even has a prototype from Asus which has Kinect sensors over the top. The Daily had a chance to check out a pair of prototypes incorporating Kinect sensors over the last few days. The devices, which at first glance appear to be Asus netbooks running Windows 8, feature an array of small sensors stretching over the top of the screen where the webcam would normally be. At the bottom of the display is a set of what appear to be LEDs. According to The NPD Group, Microsoft today announced that its Xbox 360 ended 2011 as the most selling console in the U.S., outselling the second-place console by more than 2.7 million units.Xbox had a whooping 49 percent of consumer retail spending, with $6.7 billion in sales in the U.S. for the calendar year.
