After China, now Russian government is trying to reduce the reliance on Microsoft and other US based tech companies in governmental agencies. The reason seems to be the same security issues cited by China. They fear that the backdoors and bugs in software will allow suppliers access to confidential data. Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Microsoft, Cisco Systems, Oracle and SAP had combined revenue of $8.1 billion from Russia last year, and if Russia is going to move forward with their current plans, then these companies may get affected on sales. The State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament, is drafting a bill to require government agencies and state-run enterprises to give preference to local providers of software and hardware, according to a document from the commission for strategic information systems obtained by Bloomberg News. The paper addresses criteria for tender processes such as favoring products that don’t have imported, licensed components. “This all ...

Yesterday, we reported a potential bug Google Chrome that will cause poor battery life on Windows laptop during web browsing. There is a potential bug in Google Chrome that drains your battery life and even may cause performance degrade. The bug is related to “system clock tick rate” in Google Chrome. System clock rate determines the active state of the processor, usually it would be 15.625ms when Windows is in idle mode. What Google Chrome does is that it sets the clock rate to 1.000ms making the processor waking up more than the usual. System clock rates of 1.000ms might increase power consumption by “as much as 25 per cent”. So, how does Internet Explorer handle the same issue? When you are doing regular web browsing, IE11 sets it to 15.625ms, but when you play YouTube video, it reduces it to 1.000ms for better performance. After 2 years, Google has ...

At Worldwide Partner Conference held today, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner made some bold statements regarding Microsoft. First of all, he said that Microsoft is aware of the fact that they own only 14% of the total devices shipped. But, it also represents a big opportunity for Microsoft. To grab that opportunity, a new mindset is required and he revealed that Microsoft has the Challenger mind set now. “and this 14% presents a great opportunity for us to embrace that. And in this new world of 14% share, we have to have a new mindset. Because when you’re in a 90+ percent share world, you have a ‘protect and preserve’ mindset. When you have a 14% share, you have to have a ‘challenger’ mindset.” Kevin also said that Microsoft will be a great challenger driven by disruption, differentiation and speed. Even if Microsoft fails, he said Microsoft need to fail fast, learn and fix ...

If I take a long-term view, I want Xbox to play a role in bringing more people into gaming,” Eagle said. “I think it’s incumbent on those who make console platforms to ultimately grow the market.
