After the great success of Office 365 Open program, Microsoft today announced the new Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider program at the Worldwide Partners Conference held today. As part of this program, Microsoft’s partners will be able to directly provision customer subscriptions and provide one monthly bill for both Partner and Microsoft services. It will also allow them to directly manage their customer subscriptions with in-product tools in the Partner Admin Center and own the technical support relationship. The new program will open up interesting opportunities for our partners including distributors, MSPs, ISVs and hosting providers to package their solutions with Microsoft cloud offerings. Beginning with Office 365 and Windows Intune, the Cloud Solution Provider program will be rolled out to select partners in 48 countries over the next 12 months. At Worldwide Partner Conference held today, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner made some bold statements regarding Microsoft. First of all, he said that Microsoft is aware of the fact that they own only 14% of the total devices shipped. But, it also represents a big opportunity for Microsoft. To grab that opportunity, a new mindset is required and he revealed that Microsoft has the Challenger mind set now. “and this 14% presents a great opportunity for us to embrace that. And in this new world of 14% share, we have to have a new mindset. Because when you’re in a 90+ percent share world, you have a ‘protect and preserve’ mindset. Xbox Marketing Director Harvey Eagle recently spoke during an event about the Xbox business. Yesterday, we reported about Microsoft seeing increased momentum in sales after the price cut of Xbox One to $399 for the base unit. In the same event, Eagle revealed that Microsoft is ambitious and want to become No.1 in the gaming industry. David Pann, general manager for Microsoft’s Search Network today blogged about the performance of Microsoft Bing Ads and their future. Microsoft revealed that clicks on Bing ads are up 30% from a year ago, and mobile ad clicks jumped 133%. Microsoft cited no.of new features they added over the past few months such as the new Call Extensions, product ads and new ad formats. Dubai-based low cost carrier Flydubai has joined many other organizations in adopting Windows 8 based tablets. Flydubai is now using Windows 8 based tablets at Dubai International Airport to facilitate passenger check-in. Because of this Windows 8 based solution, Flydubai has reduced the check-in time to two minutes per passenger. The airline’s new app connects to their backend services and is integrated with a passport scanner and printer. It aims to ease the check-in process by allowing staff to scan passenger information, assign seats and issue boarding passes on the spot. Few Xbox One users were recently charges for a demo game download from Xbox Store. EA acknowledged the issue and informed that some users were charged while downloading demos for FIFA 14 and EA Sports UFC due to an “error in the system.” They also informed that these game demos should be available for free free again within the next 24 hours. When Microsoft announced Nokia’s Devices and Services acquisition deal, approximately 32,000 people were transferred to Microsoft, including 4,700 people in Finland and 18,300 employees directly involved in manufacturing, assembly and packaging of products worldwide. The Kinect for Windows team recently conducted a hackathon in partnership with NUI Central. The hackathon went on for 27-hours and the participants were focused on developing applications and experiences using the upcoming Kinect for Windows v2 sensor and SDK 2.0. The event had around 100 participants from around the world. Kinect for Windows team revealed that developers have shown tremendous interest in the experimental near-field firmware that turns the Kinect for Windows v2 sensor into a near-field device that can be used at close range (from 10cm to 1m).
