The Kinect for Windows team recently conducted a hackathon in partnership with NUI Central. The hackathon went on for 27-hours and the participants were focused on developing applications and experiences using the upcoming Kinect for Windows v2 sensor and SDK 2.0. The event had around 100 participants from around the world. Kinect for Windows team revealed that developers have shown tremendous interest in the experimental near-field firmware that turns the Kinect for Windows v2 sensor into a near-field device that can be used at close range (from 10cm to 1m). Net Applications today released their latest worldwide browser market share stats for the month of June. Internet Explorer market share is up 0.21%, from 58.17 percent to 58.38 percent. Among the Internet Explorer versions, IE11 showed a modest growth by increasing by 0.2% from 17.01 percent to 17.03 percent. Internet Explorer 8 remains the most popular browser in the market with about 20.89% market share. Developer’s nightmare IE6 is now at 3.55%, we expect the number to go down in the coming months as Microsoft has ended the support for Windows XP in which it was the default browser. Back in April, Microsoft announced that they are launching Xbox One in China in September. Thanks to the partnership with BesTV, Xbox One will also be the first system of its kind to launch in China. Launching Xbox One in China is a significant milestone for both Microsoft and for the industry. Today, Chinese online electronics site Zol.com posted an image showing that Xbox One will cost around 4500 RMB in China. 4999 RMB is about $800! America’s second largest school district made a big announcement last year that they will be giving all its students iPads. While students and teachers community welcomed the news, many education analysts questioned the effectiveness of iPads in classrooms. Now, Los Angeles school district has realized that iPads are not the best in the business when it comes to students. They are now allowing schools to choose from six different Windows laptop computers for their students instead of iPads. In the fall, administrators, teachers and students at those schools will test the laptops to determine the device they should be used going forward. Microsoft made an announcement on Sunday at the International Society for Technology in Education conference in Atlanta that Pasadena Independent School District (ISD) in Texas has chosen Microsoft’s technology for their students to help transform the student learning experience in the classroom. This is not the decision they took in few months, they have chosen Microsoft after a two-year pilot at schools around the district.
