Verizon announced that updated FiOS app for Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles have added 14 channels to the lineup which includes AMC HD, AXS TV, beIN Sport, beIN Sport Espanol, Bloomberg TV, Cine Sony, Cooking Channel, Encore, Showtime, Showtime Extreme, Sony Movie Channel, Starz, Trinity Broadcast, and Universal Sport. Verizon also highlighted the fact that users will no longer require an Xbox Live Gold Subscription to stream live TV and content through the FiOS TV app. Customers can immediately start using voice and gesture commands to control the TV through Kinect. Microsoft announced the Independent Developers @ Xbox Program (ID@Xbox) which allows independent developers to publish games for Xbox One. First, you have to apply for the developer program. After the application is approved, Microsoft will offer developers free development kits and access to its Xbox One tool set which includes Kinect, Cloud, etc. There is no developer application fees as well. But once you have developed the game, you need to publish it in Xbox Store which involves several thousand dollars. Happion Labs launched their Sixty Second Shooter Prime for the Xbox One through their ID@Xbox program. They have revealed the costs associated with publishing a indie game on Xbox Store. Last year, Microsoft announced the enhancements to the Bing Webmaster Portal with an improved malware reporting and re-evaluation pipeline which allowed webmasters to know more about compromises on their sites, and it also streamlined their re-evaluation request workflow. Recently, Microsoft has launched the new Bing Site Safety Page, a portal allowing all Bing users to understand why their favorite site is being flagged, how long the warning has been there, and when the last scan took place. Synergy Research Group today released their recent data on cloud computing market. It revealed that Microsoft is the fastest growing among the top 4 companies leading in cloud infrastructure services. While Amazon still remains the largest vendor by far, it is now starting to face tougher competition, from Microsoft and others. AWS did not grow its cloud revenues on a sequential basis, and consequently saw its at year-on-year growth rate drop to 49%. While the total market was growing at 45%, Microsoft gained market share over others. Microsoft offices in China were raided today by Chinese government officials for unknown reasons. China’s State Administration for Industry & Commerce made the visits to Microsoft offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu. Yesterday, no exact reason was specified by Chinese government regarding this sudden investigation. Today, a Chinese regulator confirmed that they are conducting an anti-monopoly investigation into Microsoft over its Windows OS. Generally, anti-monopoly investigations are done when some company dominates the market by practicing unethical business practices. Even though Microsoft’s Windows is so popular in China, Microsoft’s revenue from China is almost negligible. Former CEO Steve Ballmer noted in one of this speech that Microsoft earns less revenue in China than in Netherlands. He uses a Surface Pro running Tobii’s eye gazer technology to speak, and do many other kind of activities. He is visiting Microsoft’s campus this week for attending the hackathon.
