After an initial wave of enthusiasm in a successful kickstarter campaign the team has faced setback after setback. The VLC decided to take an unorthodox approach in developing their Win8/WinRT app which would allow them to maintain much of their old code base. After multiple rejections in Windows Store, good to hear that it has finally passed the certifications. Reading view is a cool new feature Microsoft released as part of Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1. Reading view allows you to focus on the main content of the Web page you want to read, without the distractions of related (or unrelated) content surrounding the story. When you visit a compatible web page, IE will show a Reading View icon at the bottom next to the URL, just tap it to enjoy reading the web page in Reading view mode. While other browsers like Safari too provide this same feature, Microsoft detailed their effort to create this experience. A new report claims that then Cloud EVP Satya Nadella, Tony Bates, along with Bill Gates and the Microsoft board all initially opposed Steve Ballmer’s plan to acquire Nokia.  Nadella would later change his mind but Bates remained vehemently opposed. Tony Bates is no longer with the company, Gates stepped down as chairman, while Ballmer is now on the board and Satya Nadella is currently CEO. If this report is indeed true, I have a deepened respect for Steve Ballmer. During OneDrive launch last month, Microsoft announced that extra 3GB of OneDrive storage will be added to accounts which has automatic camera backup enabled on their mobile devices. Many of us got the 3GB storage on the same day of the announcement, but some people didn’t get it. Microsoft today acknowledged the error and announced that they have fixed it. A filing with the FCC reveals Microsoft has been working on an accessory currently called the Surface Wireless Display Adapter.  The accessory is an HDMI dongle which allows mirroring to a tv or other external monitor from a Surface 2 or Surface Pro 2.  According to the FCC filing the dongle supports dual-band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and may hit the market as early as August.  It is possible a demo may be shown at the Build Conference in a few weeks. A new report claims the Xbox One Twitch app will have 1280 x 720 streaming video compared to the PS4′s 960×540. This gives Xbox One the advantage of streaming high definition 720p video while the PS4 stream at a resolution slightly better than standard definition. Neowin reports: A Reddit post from user “rotj” links to a stats page for the Xbox One Twitch app, which recorded information from the stream of Microsoft’s own Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb. The stats show that the Xbox One Twitch update will stream live gameplay at a resolution of 1280×720 compared to 960×540 for the current PS4 version. In addition, the bitrate for the Xbox One is close to 2.7Mbps, compared to 1.7Mbps for the PS4.
