Craig Mundie, a senior adviser to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, showed off the company’s upcoming products in a talk at Yale University. In the lecture which is titled, “How Tomorrow’s Technologies Will Shape Your World,”  Mundie discussed Microsoft’s efforts to make human-technology interaction more natural and productive, and gave some sneak peek examples of  how the company is bringing such products to businesses and consumers. We all know that Microsoft is working on Outlook for Windows RT devices. But the real question is, when is it going to come? Two prominent Microsoft bloggers from Winsupersite and ZDNet today revealed some info on Outlook RT based on their information from sources. Paul’s info, It’s perhaps more interesting that Outlook RT has made its way outside of Microsoft as well. This suggests that it’s much closer to an actual release, though I have no information about when that might happen. I was told, however, that Outlook RT didn’t make the cut for the initial release of Windows RT because of a firmware bug in the ARM chipset that would cause the application to hang or crash over time. This is different from what a source had told me previously—something about battery life issues—but neither Outlook RT user professed to notice anything like that. Interesting. Mary’s info, This same source said all ...

Research group Gartner today published their forecast about Operating Systems and it was reported by Guardian. They reported that Microsoft may become irrelevant in the next 4 years unless they can make progress in the smartphone and tablet markets. Since shipments of Android devices will dwarf Windows PCs and phones by 2017, they think Microsoft is doomed. Also Apple powered devices will match Microsoft platform devices in terms of no.of units. For Microsoft, this poses an important inflexion point in its history, warns Milanesi. “Winning in the tablet and phone space is critical for them to remain relevant in this shift,” she told the Guardian. “We’re talking about hardware displacement here – but this shift also has wider implications for operating systems and apps. What happens, for instance, when [Microsoft] Office isn’t the best way to be productive in your work?” You make your own conclusions about this report. The ...

It is a usual thing that Microsoft uses its customers to showcase its software and services capabilities, but this is the first time they showcased a political party for promoting its software services. “It was really useful to see how Lync could adapt to the way our multilocation operation works,” Chopra said. “We didn’t start with Lync in every office, but we deployed it in our Chicago headquarters, and those employees were able to ...

Microsoft’s Bing is focused on making the search much more social and fast. In an attempt to enhance the current social flavour now one gets with Bing search (assuming the user has connected Facebook account with Bing), Microsoft may soon add more social behaviour to the search results which will help the users easily find places which had been visited by their friends.
