Microsoft today announced a new set of Office 365 offerings for businesses. Office 365 features enhanced enterprise social capabilities with SharePoint and Yammer today, and Lync-Skype connectivity for presence, instant messaging (IM), and voice by June. The new Office 365 service is available today in 69 markets and 17 languages and will be available in an additional 20 markets and 16 languages in the second quarter of this year. Following are the new offerings, •  Office 365 ProPlus. Office 365 ProPlus includes the latest and most complete set of fully featured, rich Office applications — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, InfoPath and Access — delivered as a service, on up to five devices. Few days back, Microsoft along with EMC and NetApp has filed a petition in support for Oracle to US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Oracle lost the case against Google involving usage of Java APIs with out any licensing agreements. We already saw reports that Microsoft Surface RT attracted a long line in Beijing, China back in October when it was first launched. It seems that the demand didn’t last for so many days, according to IDC, Microsoft Surface RT shipments has been low with only 30,000 units shipped during the fourth quarter. So, Surface accounted for only 1% of tablet market in China. IDC also reported that Microsoft was concerned less with boosting shipments, and instead used the device to demonstrate to PC vendors “how great” a Windows tablet could be, Chang said. Nasuni today released their report on performance of Cloud Storage Providers. Nasuni tested five clouds: Amazon S3, Microsoft Windows Azure Blob Storage, Google Cloud Storage, HP Cloud Object Storage, and Rackspace Cloud Files. Microsoft Azure has trumped the last year leader Amazon S3 in various cases. Across the three tests, Windows Azure emerged as a top performer in all categories, and the leader in two out of three: Speed: Azure was 56 percent faster than the No. 2 Amazon S3 in write speed, and 39 percent faster at reading files than the No. 2 HP Cloud Object Storage in read speed. Availability: Azure’s average response time was 25 percent faster than Amazon S3, which had the second fastest average time. Before the release of Windows 8, every few days we used to see new builds and screenshots of Windows 8 internal builds. Microsoft released Windows 8 to the consumer 3 months back and since then there was no concrete information that got leaked about the next version of Windows.
