Except for the issue that many new features will not be coming to Windows Phone 7, Xbox Music Pass only adds features to Zune Pass for subscribers, who can look forward to a cross-platform music streaming client, a bigger library, portable playlists and eventually the ability to plug the holes in the streaming selection by uploading your own tracks. Microsoft sent the above circular to their Zune Pass subscribers informing them of the same, and also, as a sweetener, offered them 1,000 Microsoft Points, which should be just about enough to hire a movie or buy a few tracks, which is not bad for doing nothing. Let the Xbox Music party begin! Via Neowin.net. Thanks Amedeo for the tip. ...

That did not take long. There has been a lot of speculation about muted demand for Windows 8, so it must be of some reassurance to Microsoft that pre-orders for the Windows 8 Pro DVD edition at $69.99 has stormed to the top of Amazon’s Best Sellers list and has been sitting there for the last 4 days, despite a much cheaper download option being available. Microsoft has projected that they will sell 400 million copies of Windows 8 over the next year, and is in the process of spending $1.5 billion on advertising the new operating system. I suspect this showing is just the start of shutting the critics up. Via Neowin.net ...

The $1.5 billion ad campaign for Windows 8 is now in full swing , with a  custom TV ad showing up in the season premiere of AMC The Walking Dead. The ad shows a person using a Windows 8-based tablet with a Walking Dead-themed interactive experience.  The person was also instant messaging a friend while watching the episode.  The ad appears to suggest a gaming element, with one actor turning into a zombie, with the IM message saying  they could not wait to “eat you.” AMC has a feature called StorySync on the official Walking Dead website that allows people to participate in trivia questions, polls and more while they are watching live episodes via a web browser, and this may be a suggestion that a similar app will be coming to Windows 8 tablets. The Windows 8 ad campaign launched on the 13th and should reach a crescendo on ...

The New York Times reports that the Federal Trade Commission is preparing a recommendation that the government sue Google for abusing its position as the dominant search engine. The accusation is that Google manipulates search results to favour its own products, and makes it harder for competitors and their products to appear prominently on a results page. The commission is also building a team to take Google to court, if it comes to that. The European competition authorities are also pressing ahead and seeking changes in Google’s behaviour. Joaquín Almunia, the European Union’s competition commissioner expressed concerns that Google is “using its dominance in online search to foreclose rival specialized search engines and search advertisers.” Google is also being investigated by the attorneys general of six states: Texas, Ohio, New York, California, Oklahoma and Mississippi. Accusations include that of manipulating the search results to favour Google commerce services such as ...
