Today Microsoft confirmed that the next major version of Windows OS will be called ‘Windows 8′. Also Microsoft announced a new version of Windows called Windows RT. Windows RT is nothing but the Windows on ARM which will come pre-installed in ARM based PCs and you won’t be able to buy it individually. Also Windows RT will come with touch optimized version of Microsoft Office. Microsoft has also simplified the Windows 8 SKUs. It will come in 3 flavors other than Windows RT. Last week in Beijing, Intel Developer Forum 2012 took place. Intel showcased some of the Windows 8 based Touch Screen Ultrabooks that will be available later this year. You can have a glimpse of some types of mobile PC form factors showcased at IDF in the video below. There are also reports that Microsoft is pushing more touch screens in Ultrabooks and also involved the design process of those PCs. Intel has detailed its Windows 8 tablet features  at a conference in Beijing. As expected, Intel is trying to match the hardware specifics to Apple iPad along with Windows advantages such as app compatibility, etc,. The tablets will be based on Atom Z2760 “Clover Trail” chip with sizes of 10-inch tablets and 11-inch hybrids with physical keyboards. AICTE(All India Council For Technical Education) announced the deployment of Microsoft Live@Edu to more than 10,000 technical colleges and institutes throughout India. This is the biggest ever cloud deployment for Microsoft in its history. The Live@Edu service is mostly free of cost which may lead to Microsoft not directly earning much from this deal. But Eduction sector is a good place to experiment things and learn from the experience to deploy in enterprise services. The Metro Design language is quickly spreading across various product groups in Microsoft. We have seen them in upcoming Windows 8, Windows Server versions as well. After the poor show by Google’s Android designers by copying Windows Phone, iOS and other OSs out there, its now time for Google Chrome OS designers. When Chrome OS was released more than an year ago, Google highlighted its simplicity and basically said that your browser is the OS. They even said Chrome OS is “re-think what operating systems should be.” Today Google contradicted their own words and copied Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X design elements. They announced a new Windows Manager for Chrome OS called Aura. It will combine Windows 7 like Task bar and Mac OS X style Launchpad. As we are enjoying the Windows 8 Consumer Preview loaded with lots of new features, Microsoft is tweaking the look of the Windows Explorer Ribbon UI. The updated Ribbon UI in the recent builds of Windows 8 RC shows that Microsoft has made them flat to make it in line with Metro Design language. Also Winsupersite reports that there will be more changes in icons, menus, etc as Windows 8 development progresses.
