Microsoft yesterday announced that they are expanding the availability of Surface RT and Surface Pro to many other countries around the world. Surface Pro is soon coming to Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, New Zealand and United Kingdom. The roll out will begin in late March. Microsoft has also announced that the Surface RT will be coming to Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore and Taiwan in the upcoming months and will release more details on it soon. Microsoft Bing today announced that they are releasing new top of the world imagery along with 13 million sq km of updated satellite imagery. We are pleased to present our new seamless base satellite imagery provided by TerraColor. This imagery has a resolution of 15 meters per pixel, providing coverage of the entire world! This new imagery will enhance overall viewer experience with Bing Maps and the Windows 8 Maps App. Experience it yourself by visiting the Windows 8 Maps App or Bing Maps. The new Top of the World imagery (pictured above) is visible from zoom levels 1-13. Zooming in deeper will reveal our high resolution satellite imagery. Microsoft and Facebook today announced that Facebook is acquiring the Atlas Advertiser Suite from Microsoft. Microsoft bought Atlas as part of the aQuantive acquisition back in 2006. The deal was terrible for Microsoft and it wrote off the entire $6.2 billion value last year. Facebook on Atlas, Many marketers that advertise on Facebook today use Atlas, and Atlas has been an approved partner for measurement since June. Today’s agreement brings us closer together in a way that benefits both Facebook and Atlas’ agency and marketer clients. Atlas clients should not see any change to the service they receive today, and we will continue to innovate and invest in the Atlas platform. Microsoft today announced a new set of Office 365 offerings for businesses. Office 365 features enhanced enterprise social capabilities with SharePoint and Yammer today, and Lync-Skype connectivity for presence, instant messaging (IM), and voice by June. The new Office 365 service is available today in 69 markets and 17 languages and will be available in an additional 20 markets and 16 languages in the second quarter of this year. Few days back, Microsoft along with EMC and NetApp has filed a petition in support for Oracle to US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Oracle lost the case against Google involving usage of Java APIs with out any licensing agreements. We already saw reports that Microsoft Surface RT attracted a long line in Beijing, China back in October when it was first launched. It seems that the demand didn’t last for so many days, according to IDC, Microsoft Surface RT shipments has been low with only 30,000 units shipped during the fourth quarter. So, Surface accounted for only 1% of tablet market in China. IDC also reported that Microsoft was concerned less with boosting shipments, and instead used the device to demonstrate to PC vendors “how great” a Windows tablet could be, Chang said.
