We have just received a note from a reader in China who has been told via email by Suning, a large retailer in China and one of the official distributers, that pre-orders for the tablet will only be fulfilled in early November. On further enquiry he was told that the launch in Hong Kong has been pushed back due to transportation issues in Hong Kong. The irony is of course that the tablet is being assembled in China by Pegatron. Have any more of our Chinese readers received such a communication? Let us know below. Thanks Gabe for the tip. ...

MediaMarkt is a large German retailer and a subsidiary of Metro AG. They have launched a series of promotional videos for Windows 8, which are attention-grabbing but certainly also somewhat strange. In the above video the easy Sharing features of Windows 8 gets a brief demo, contrasted with how difficult it is to Shear a sheep. The video below is only somewhat better, and here the security features of Windows 8 is shown, showing how easy it is to get access to a Windows 8 PC vs a club. The series is called Windows 8 vs Reality. Do our readers agree the producers seems to have lost contact with reality themselves. Let us know below. Via WPArea.de ...

I did not find HP’s promotional videos for their tablets very inspiring, but this Dell video for the Dell Latitude 10 tablet, aimed at a very different audience, that being enterprise, is exactly the opposite, doing a very good job of setting out the features and advantages of their tablet. If there is anything that could be faulted in the video is that it does not go much into the features of Windows 8, but it is likely it is much more important to businesses that their legacy apps run than what shows up in the Windows 8 Store. The device runs Windows 8 on a Atom Z2760 processor, 2 GB RAM, with a 10.1 inch 1366×768 pixel IPS screen with Gorilla Glass, 64 GB SSD and the option for a HSDPA or LTE modem. See the device and its specs at Dell here. ...

Andy wrote us complaining: I pre-ordered the 64GB Surface minutes after it went on sale in Canada, and I just got an email notification from Microsoft saying my order will not ship until November 2nd. I’m wondering if I’m the only one, or if all 64GB models have been delayed, or if Microsoft is screwing customers outside the US to fulfil US orders. Might be worth looking into. It turns out he was one of many who received such emails, saying their Surface tablet orders would no longer be delivered on the 26th October. Now Microsoft has admitted that these emails have been sent in error to non-US buyers, telling Engadget: Unfortunately, an incorrect email was sent to several of our international customers who pre-ordered Surface from the Microsoft Online Store in the past week. All customers should expect their devices by the original date given when orders were placed. ...

After few hours of started taking pre-orders for Microsoft Surface, Microsoft Store indicated that the basic model of Surface which sells for $499 got sold out and the orders will be delivered only after 3 weeks. Today, the rest of the Surface SKUs got sold out and the order of shipments pushed back to 1-2 weeks. So, you can’t order a Microsoft Surface unit in US for about 1-2 weeks from now. I guess we will be able to order Surface from Oct-26th(the day Windows 8 is getting released) again. Did you order one already?       ...

Good news for Microsoft and Windows RT fans is that the 32 GB Windows RT has now sold out also in Canada and UK. The 32 GB device has also proven to be popular in USA, where it sold out in less than 24 hours. We generally expected that the 32 GB device was selling out because it is the cheapest, but an alternate theory also actually makes a lot of sense – the bundles only include a Black Touch Cover, a colour I suspect few people would chose, suggesting many people are paying the $20 premium to get the actual colour of their choice or even the Type Cover, rather than settling for the bundled “freebie”. The Surface team posted the above video of a 30 inch drop test of a Surface tablet onto a hardwood floor. It is no surprise the Vapor Magnesium ensconced device survived the fall. More interesting however is that the video was captured by the Surface camera, and looks pretty good, even in 1080P HD. The device is now on pre-order, and appears so far to be selling well, with rumours that Microsoft is looking to sell 3-5 million over the next 3 months. Via MobilityDigest.com ...

Microsoft officially launched their online store in China at microsoftstore.com.cn. Amongst other items the store will also be selling Microsoft’s Surface tablets there, which should make fans who prefer getting their warranty directly from Microsoft happy. Microsoft will also be distributing their Surface tablets through major Chinese retailer Suning. The Chinese Surface tablet will be somewhat different from the worldwide one, to comply with Chinese rules and regulations, including the absence of Facebook and Twitter integration for example. Microsoft is rumoured to have ordered between 3-5 million Surface tablets, and will need as many distribution outlets as possible to meet that sales target. See the store here. Via Livesino.net. ...

Google’s Q3 earnings report leaked out early today, resulting in a bloodbath for the stock, which fell 9% in the space of minutes, and causing trading on the shares to be halted. The company reported a 20% drop in profits from last year, from $2.73 billion to $2.18 billion. The company said it earned $9.03 a share vs the analysts consensus of $10.65. Google is in the main an advertising company, and the  Average cost-per-click decreased 15% year-over-year and decreased 3% quarter-over-quarter, possibly as a result of the move to mobile of which the company is a huge proponent with the Android operating system, but which earn them hardly any money. “The core business itself is slowing down,” said Colin Gillis, an analyst at BGC Partners LP. The company’s Motorola revenue decreased 26% YoY to $2.58 billion, and lost $151 million, making their $12.4 billion purchase seem more and more ...
