Microsoft was ranked 5th among the top 10 US patent winners of 2013. Microsoft totally was awarded with 2,660 patents. IBM was once again leading the list with 6,809 patents for 21st year, followed by Samsung, Canon and Sony. Surprisingly, there are only three US companies in the list which are Microsoft, IBM and Qualcomm. Microsoft is the only company on the top 10 list which primarily does software business while the other 9 companies deal mostly with hardware and services which are easily patentable. AMD today announced the availability of its next generation APUs codenamed Kaveri from today. This is the first time AMD has included heterogeneous system architecture support in its APU. The chip is based on new generation of Steamroller CPU which offers great efficiency. AMD A10-7000 Series APU, codenamed “Kaveri”. These new processors pack an all-new architecture, including HSA features, Radeon™ R7 graphics and AMD TrueAudio technology. GoDaddy, the world’s largest domain registrar and web hosting company has announced a partnership with Microsoft to provide Office 365 solutions to its customers. Any small business that uses GoDaddy for domain registration and web hosting can sign up for Office 365 services such as email, Lync, cloud storage and even other Microsoft productivity solutions such as shared calendars and online conferencing under different plans. Salesforce is the only company that is ahead of Microsoft in this space.
