Gartner recently released their report on Unified Communications market. In the magic quadrant they released, Microsoft was positioned as a leader in the marker along with Cisco. Cisco used to be the only major player in this marker, Microsoft came up with Lync years later and now it continues to make significant gains in the market. In many cases, Lync is initially deployed for its IM, presence and Web conferencing functionalities, with gradual incremental deployments of telephony and video added as follow-on phased deployments for specifically targeted groups or regions. Autohosted Apps was a preview program to determine how best to provide a seamless deployment experience for creating apps for SharePoint. Back in May, Microsoft notified that this program would end on June 16, 2014 and developers would not be able to create new autohosted apps in SharePoint. Since developers can no longer install autohosted apps in SharePoint Online, the capability to create autohosted apps and deploy them into the production SharePoint Online site has been removed from the Office Developer Tools in the Visual Studio 2013 update 3, released August 4,2014. Microsoft today announced that they releasing an update to the Office 365 API Tool for Visual Studio 2013, which includes Office 365 API client libraries for .NET applications and JavaScript for multi-device hybrid applications. This update brings in some changes based on feedback and bug fixes since the previous release. During the quarterly financial report, Microsoft revealed that Office 365 consumer subscriptions which includes Home and Personal editions increased to 5.6 million in total. In fact, Microsoft added 1 million subscribers in the last quarter. Microsoft COO Kevin Turner said they are thrilled with the tremendous momentum of our cloud offerings with Office 365. CFO Amy Hood commented the following on Office 365, Our commercial cloud revenue grew 147% this quarter, driven by both Office 365 and Azure. Microsoft yesterday announced that Azure Active Directory SDKs for iOS and Android have reached General Availability and available for download. In addition to that, Microsoft has added support for OS X for Mountain Lion and above. All these SDKs are also open source, so you can participate in the development process as we build these libraries. As announced last month, Microsoft has doubled the free storage for OneDrive users to 15GB from 7GB, and Office 365 subscribers will get 1 TB of OneDrive storage up from 20GB. To support this change, Microsoft has added another 10 petabytes of capacity to OneDrive via Microsoft Azure. New and existing personal OneDrive accounts will come with: 15 GB of free storage (up from 7 GB) 1 TB of additional OneDrive storage with an Office 365 Home/Personal/University subscription (up from 20 GB) The option to buy additional storage at much lower prices, starting at 100 GB for $1.99 per month. Gamestop, which is a rapidly growing Fortune 500 and S&P 500 company with more than 6,000 stores has adopted Office 365 for communicating with their employees from thousands of stores. The GameStop retail portal is built on Microsoft SharePoint Online. Microsoft Office team today announced their plans to scale up the limits for Public Folders in Office 365. They announced that the folder count limit has been increased to 100,000 folders, a 10x increase over the prior limit as defined in the Exchange service description limits. Microsoft believes that this increase in limit will enable migration of larger existing public folder hierarchies and increased use of the feature in Office 365. As this is a cloud based feature, customers can immediately take advantage of this new scale for public folders. After the great success of Office 365 Open program, Microsoft today announced the new Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider program at the Worldwide Partners Conference held today. As part of this program, Microsoft’s partners will be able to directly provision customer subscriptions and provide one monthly bill for both Partner and Microsoft services. It will also allow them to directly manage their customer subscriptions with in-product tools in the Partner Admin Center and own the technical support relationship. The new program will open up interesting opportunities for our partners including distributors, MSPs, ISVs and hosting providers to package their solutions with Microsoft cloud offerings.
