During a Reddit AmA on new Surface devices back in September 2013, Surface team confirmed that they are working on LTE version of Surface devices. Why was LTE not included on neither Surface nor Surface Pro? We didn’t talk about it today, but Surface 2 will be launching an awesome LTE SKU early next year! Looks like the time has come. Microsoft today revealed that they will be at the Singapore Airshow, talking with leaders across the commercial airline industry about how they have removed the barriers to adopting Electronic Flight Bags (EFB’s) and going paperless in the cockpit. Microsoft also announced that Surface 2 tablets have achieved Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) authorization for Class 1 or 2 EFB needs for all phases of flight. This FAA authorization will allow airlines to use Surface for their actual work anytime.   Microsoft released a firmware update for Surface Pro 2 users in December and then later pulled it due to issues caused by the update. Microsoft then said, “To ensure the best experience for our customers during the holiday season, we have taken steps to remove the update for Surface Pro 2 that was previously published through Windows Update on December 10,” and even confirmed that they are working to release an alternative update package after the holidays.
