While Apple loves to tout the so-called Post-PC era, and even in their recent financials spoke about iPad growth on the strength of them replacing PCs, recent research has found they may not be as well position as they appear. Deloitte denies the claim that we are in the ‘post-PC era’, and that whilst tablet computers have made inroads to traditional PC sales, the only thing that tablets replace is paper, with pilots taking tablets into the cockpit and doctors reviewing medical records on them in hospitals and restaurants as wine menu’s. The 2013 forecast by the Technology, Media and Telecommunications Group announced that only tablet computers between 10m and 15m are being used as PC replacements despite companies around the world purchasing 30m tablet computers. There are 500 million enterprise PC’s in use, but only 15 million tablets (3% of the enterprise PC market) and only 5 million of ...

It is due to the fact that supplies of touch panels are limited that notebooks with touchscreen control features tend to be around $100-$200 more expensive than those without; therefore as a result customers are more inclined to purchase Windows 7 based notebook models in which touchscreen control features are not necessary. Currently –according to Digitimes Research- touchscreen-based notebooks contributed to 0.5% of total notebook shipments at the end of 2012, however once touch panel supplies increase and become cheaper, the percentage is expected to increase to 10% in 2013. While Windows 8 works perfectly fine using just a keyboard and a mouse, it does not deliver the new type of experience users expect from our touch-screen driven lifestyle these days.  It is expected that the wide availability of affordable touch screen laptops and tablets will provide the significant boost in sales which have eluded Windows 8 so far. Yes, this review of the Microsoft Surface is a bit late. You’ve most likely read several of the high-profile reviews already. You’ve possibly read many more. In this review, I will focus only on the things I personally like and do not like. This will not be a be-all-end-all review. Please take what you can from it, and hopefully, if you’re on the fence about getting a Surface RT, this will cement your decision one way or the other. Let’s get the hardware specifications out of the way. The Surface RT is a 1.5 pound, 10.6 inch tablet. The screen resolution is 1366×768. The processor is an Nvidia Tegra 3, which is a quad-core ARM-based processor, reportedly clocking in at 1.3 ghz per core. It comes with 2 GB of RAM, and a choice of either 32GB or 64GB of memory. In regards to ports, the Surface has a full-sized USB 2.0 port, a ...

On Monday night’s Halloween-centered episode of Hawaii Five-0, the new Microsoft Surface was spotted being used by Dr. Max Bergman.  Before clicking on the bottom right icon to bring up a photo, it was clear he was showcasing it for the camera.  Also spotted on the episode was a blue polycarbonate Nokia Lumia, but it was unclear if it was a Lumia 900 or Lumia 920. Microsoft has showcased their Windows Phones on Hawaii Five-0 since the remake’s inception, and it’s clear that they are branching out into Windows 8 in-show advertising as well. ...

While many Microsoft fans are already playing with their Surface tablets, quite a few are not having such a good time, and are still waiting for theirs to be delivered. Many buyers have had no notification about the status of their orders, and quite a few are having their orders cancelled, without any real explanation. Mark from WP7.nl is one of the later, having received this email. I ordered mine on 10/18 and it was cancelled by Microsoft on 10/27: The following item(s) have been cancelled from your order: Product SKU: Z2S-00002 Product Name: Surface HD Digital AV Adapter Qty Ordered: 1 Reason for cancellation: Other Product SKU: 9HR-00026 Product Name: Surface with Windows RT Qty Ordered: 1 Reason for cancellation: Other While I think there is too much goodwill amongst the Microsoft community to call this a botched launch, Microsoft is in the unusual position of having product that ...

Microsoft has recently published a series of ads for their Surface tablet in cities in California, Texas, Massachusetts, Washington and Chicago. With the ads being painted on street walls and car wash buildings, Microsoft appears to have taken a different approach to advertising.   Some may argue that the Surface ads are cheaper in comparison to other Microsoft products and services, whereas others argue they are integrating street art with advertising, thus creating an innovative way of publicising their tablet.  One thing is for sure, their quirky idea has caught the attention of not only Microsoft users, but also the general public. The Microsoft Surface tablet will be introduced later this month, where it will undoubtedly compete with other tablet computers that run Android, such as the: Kindle Fire of Amazon and Google’s Nexus 7 in addition to the Apple iPad.  The Microsoft surface will be available through 20 Microsoft stores ...

Windows 8 launch day is rapidly approaching, and it seems a good time to get acquainted with the variety of mobility choices we will soon have. Ukranian  Microsoft evangelist Igor "Walker" Shastitko posted a pretty detailed walk-through of two devices, the Samsung ATIV SmartPC Pro and the Acer Iconia Tab (W510) on Youtube, unfortunately not in English, which gives us a good idea of the look, feel and performance of each device. What is striking about the Samsung ATIV SmartPC Pro especially is how laptop-like it was when docked, which will hopefully also secure PC-like sales of tends of millions of devices over the next year, firmly establishing the ecosystem.
