Asus yesterday announced two new Windows 8 based Zenbook Ultrabooks. The new Zenbooks are the 14-inch UX42VS and the 15-inch UX52VS and U500VZ. The pricing of these device ranges from $699 to $2,000. The UX42VS comes with an optical drive, features NVIDIA GT645M graphics with 1GB of dedicated video memory, with Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, up to 6GB of RAM and up to 1TB of hybrid hard drive. The UX525VS will come with Core i5 or i7 CPU, up to 10GB RAM, up to 1TB hybrid hard drive, NVIDIA GT645M graphics with 1GB of dedicated video card. Microsoft worked with leading marketing agencies like Crispin, Porter and Bogusky, JWT, Wunderman, etc, to make these ads. Microsoft today revealed something on YouTube called “Microtropolis, A City Brought To Life Through Windows 8″. It is a marketing campaign around Windows 8 in NewYork. Inspired by Manhattan, we have created a stylized one hundred and sixty foot version of NYC in an art installation we are calling Microtropolis. Microtropolis is Manhattan experienced through Windows. It creates the ultimate hands-on demonstration of Windows 8, with the city of NYC as the backdrop. As you walk into the installation, you are literally walking through the avenues and streets with skyscrapers towering above. This interactive experience has hundreds of devices placed on rooftops within the city, customized to the neighborhoods in which they are placed. Pros: Design looks great for its class, Optional AMD discrete graphics, Value for money. Cons: Not so great display, less battery life compared to many Ultrabooks.   After few hours of started taking pre-orders for Microsoft Surface, Microsoft Store indicated that the basic model of Surface which sells for $499 got sold out and the orders will be delivered only after 3 weeks. Today, the rest of the Surface SKUs got sold out and the order of shipments pushed back to 1-2 weeks. So, you can’t order a Microsoft Surface unit in US for about 1-2 weeks from now. Microsoft today announced that IE10 for Windows 7 release preview will be released in mid-November. And the final availability will follow as Microsoft collects developer and customer feedback. IE10 on Windows 7 has the same standards based platform for developers to target as IE10 on Windows 8. Here are some interesting info gathered from there, If you buy a 32GB Surface, after the OS, OfficeRT and a bunch of apps, you will still have about 20GB free space. You cannot install apps on the SD card you insert into Surface, but you can move your photos, music and videos. Why no 3G/4G models: “We made what we feel is World Class WiFi connectivity. For 3G/4G we looked at several elements when deciding on what features to include.   WSJ today reported that Microsoft is planning to sell 3-5 Million Surface Tablets this quarter alone. According to component suppliers in Asia with whom WSJ spoke with,  Microsoft has placed orders to produce 3 million to 5 million of these tablets in the fourth quarter.
