Asus has confirmed the upcoming 8-inch Windows tablet Asus VivoTab Note 8 with its manual leak. The main differentiation among its competitors will be the Stylus support. Dell Venue 8 Pro already supports stylus, but it is powered by Synaptics digitizer with a battery-powered stylus. As per previous reports, Asus VivoTab Note 8 will have Wacom digitizer support. According to the latest numbers from Net Applications, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer IE11 tripled its market share from last month. IE11 grew 7.15 percentage points, up from 3.27 percent to 10.42 percent. This sudden growth is due to the automatic update process for IE10 users. IE10 is down 6.45 percentage points to 11.05 percent. Overall, Internet Explorer lost 0.45% (from 58.36 percent to 57.91 percent) while Google Chrome gained 0.78% (from 15.44 percent to 16.22 percent). It should be interesting to see the January numbers as it will represent the whole holiday sales numbers of Windows PCs which should show some growth for IE and Chromebook sales for Chrome browser.   As we start a new month, its time to look at where OS market share is heading. According to the the latest market share data from Net Applications, at the end of  December 2013, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 gained 0.85% points. It now holds 10.15%, up from 9.30% in November. Thanks to new PCs and the free update for Windows 8 PCs, Windows 8.1 market share increased by 0.86% from 2.64% to 3.50%. Another interesting fact is that, Windows 7 continued to gain market share as more enterprise customers move towards Windows 7. NPD Group’s Distributor Track and Commercial Reseller Tracking Service today reported that over 14.4 million desktops, notebooks, and tablets were sold through U.S. commercial channels in this year to date through November 2013. Windows laptops showed zero growth over 2012 while Windows desktops saw a 10% increase in numbers. Even Apple sales for laptops and desktops fell by 7%. The real shocker from the report is regarding Google Chromebooks which saw a tremendous growth. Chromebooks, and Android tablets collectively had the biggest impact on sales growth, with 1.76 million units going through the channel from January through November of this year, compared to just 400,000 units in 2012.   I’ll admit it, I’m a big fan of Photosynth technology right from the day Microsoft revealed it. The Live Labs inside Microsoft which originally developed Photosynth is no more. However, Blaise Agüera y Arcas and a bunch of people of his team were still working on Photosynth. Even though the first generation Photosynth was cool, the consuming experience was not so smooth.
