Microsoft YouTube account yesterday posted three strange Windows 8 ads that never really shows the actual product. All the above ads involves Japanese people doing some weird things on screen. Neowin posted an explanation of these ads which are considered to be metaphor for Windows 8 features. Aside from the fact that the content of each ad is very strange, the other thing that’s noticeable is that a Windows 8 PC is nowhere to be found in any of these commercials. Microsoft seems to be using the ad’s content as a metaphor for features in Windows 8. The watermelon ad is linked to the touchscreen experience and the piano-ping pong clip is meant to show that Windows 8 can do two things at once. The third commercial is supposed to show that Windows 8 can be both “beautiful and fast” but that’s reaching a bit for that metaphor to work. ...

Speaking to The Australian Mark Whittard, managing director of Toshiba Australia accused Microsoft for confusing the PC market with couple of different flavours of Windows. He said consumers also were wary at the price jump going from Windows 7 to Windows 8, a gap that increased further when Windows 7 computers were discounted to clear. “They were going even cheaper than the traditional RRP (recommended retail price), so the gap wasn’t just the $100 or $200 from non-touch to touch, it was $400 and the customer’s going: “Hang on a sec, ...

When asked about the future of computing with the arrival of tablets replacing PCs, Gates gave a typical Microsoft answer that Windows 8 was designed to work with both tablets and PCs. Here is the excerpt from the interview, It’s going to be harder and harder to distinguish products, whether they are tablets or PCs.
