At CES, Lenovo has announced three new Windows 8 all-in-ones. The 27-inch Horizon 2 is portable PC that is focused on bringing full-on multitouch family entertainment. You can use it as an All-in-One sitting a desk (“Stand Mode”) or in the living room “Table Mode” surrounded by people. The Horizon 2 is dramatically thinner( 19.5mm) and lighter, comes with up to a 4th generation Intel Core i7 processor, Dolby Home Theater for amazing audio, and HDD or hybrid storage. It also has NFC to share content from your phone to the Horizon 2. The Horizon 2 comes pre-installed with Windows 8.1 and a 10-point touchscreen. When Lenovo announced Yoga 2 Pro Ultrabook last year, many of us got confused about the naming convention which added the ‘Pro’ word to it. Now we are clear about the Lenovo’s plans as they have announced the new Yoga 2 devices. Mozilla announced in early 2012 that they will be developing a Modern UI version of Firefox on Windows 8. After almost two years since the announcement, the product is now scheduled to be released to the general public in March 2014. Earlier it was planned to include this new modern version with the release of Firefox 27, but it is now delayed to release it with Firefox 28. According to the latest numbers from Net Applications, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer IE11 tripled its market share from last month. IE11 grew 7.15 percentage points, up from 3.27 percent to 10.42 percent. This sudden growth is due to the automatic update process for IE10 users. IE10 is down 6.45 percentage points to 11.05 percent. Overall, Internet Explorer lost 0.45% (from 58.36 percent to 57.91 percent) while Google Chrome gained 0.78% (from 15.44 percent to 16.22 percent). It should be interesting to see the January numbers as it will represent the whole holiday sales numbers of Windows PCs which should show some growth for IE and Chromebook sales for Chrome browser. NPD Group’s Distributor Track and Commercial Reseller Tracking Service today reported that over 14.4 million desktops, notebooks, and tablets were sold through U.S. commercial channels in this year to date through November 2013. Windows laptops showed zero growth over 2012 while Windows desktops saw a 10% increase in numbers. Even Apple sales for laptops and desktops fell by 7%. The real shocker from the report is regarding Google Chromebooks which saw a tremendous growth. Chromebooks, and Android tablets collectively had the biggest impact on sales growth, with 1.76 million units going through the channel from January through November of this year, compared to just 400,000 units in 2012.
