It was delayed, it was (and still is) experiencing supply issues, and the included plastic dock is clumsy and not very portable. However, Acer has apparently started to ship a revamped keyboard case with the device, as posters on Acer’s support forums have noted. The new keyboard case consists of three parts: a microfiber sleeve to which a silicon case and the keyboard – which connects over Bluetooth and can be charged with an included microUSB cable – are glued. Inserting and removing the W700 from the silicon case certainly isn’t as effortless as ...

While Acer has blamed their poor sales on Windows 8 rather than the lack of supplying hardware the public wants, Lenovo, who has been on the forefront of creating great hybrid designs and marketing them well, has been reaping the rewards of supporting the new OS. Lenovo has just had a record-breaking quarter, growing their market share and profits despite the shrinking PC market. CEO Yang Yuanqing is quoted as saying that “new technologies like Windows 8, ultrabooks, and convertibles will drive new demand. 2013 will be better than 2012.” So Acer, how about less winning and some more designing? Prior to Surface going on sale analysts predicted around 2 million would be sold.  After the quarter ended one analyst suggested about 1 million actually made it to market.  Goldman Sachs analyst Heather Bellini however thinks the number may have been lower, a lot lower.  They estimate as few as 230,000 Surface tablets were sold, hardly enough to make a real impression in the market or support the Windows RT ecosystem.  Fortunately for Microsoft Windows 8 is there to carry the torch, with the company saying it has shipped more than 60 million licenses since launch Do our readers think the low-balled numbers are realistic? Acer President Jim Wong said in an interview to Bloomberg at the company headquarters that Google Chrome-based PCs accounted for 5 percent to 10 percent of Acer’s U.S. shipments since being released there in November. He also told that Windows 8 is not successful which is evident from the decreased PC sales. “Windows 8 itself is still not successful,” said Wong, whose company posted a 28 percent drop in fourth-quarter shipments from a year earlier. “The whole market didn’t come back to growth after the Windows 8 launch, that’s a simple way to judge if it is successful or not.” “You saw that all the marketing and promotions were not as broad as Windows 8, so to reach this success is encouraging,” I really don’t understand the Chromebook market because for the same price as a Chromebook, you can buy a Windows 7/Windows 8 based PC. What do you think? Read ...
