Asus has announced that it will no longer make Windows RT tablets from now on. Asus Chief Executive Jerry Shen told that they are going away from Windows RT due to lack of backwards compatibility and they will continue to work on Intel based Windows devices. He also revealed that the company took a writedown on its Windows RT tablets in the second quarter similar to what Microsoft did for its Surface RT devices. “It’s not only our opinion, the industry sentiment is also that Windows RT has not been successful,” Asustek Chief Executive Jerry Shen told The Wall Street Journal on the sidelines of its post-earnings conference. If you are among the people who face battery draining issue on Surface RT devices running Windows 8.1 preview, there is a temporary workaround to fix it. The solution is strange but according to lots of people, it works! “Do you have your Bluetooth radio turned off, e.g. through airplane mode? If so, please turn it on as a workaround. Swipe in from right to bring in charms bar, tap on Settings and then on Change PC Settings at the bottom. Subsequent steps to get to the switch to enable Bluetooth: Change PC Settings > PC and Devices > Bluetooth,” Microsoft is already aware of the bug and should be working on an actual fix. Microsoft Surface RT devices does not support External Ethernet so far and there were some workarounds to make it work. But even those solutions are not working right now. According to ZDNet, Microsoft is working on bringing  External Ethernet support to Surface RT devices. Also Microsoft is working with hardware partners to make external Ethernet dongles that support Connected Standby, the Windows 8 feature that provides instant-on/off whenever network connections are available. Microsoft today announced the availability of both Surface RT and Surface Pro devices in Taiwan. Even though Taiwan’s Pegatron makes Surface tablets for all parts of the world, their home country got Surface devices nearly after 9 months of the launch. According to Neowin, the new reduced price of Surface Pro is also live in Taiwan for a limited period. Sales of the tablets began at noon Sunday, when 100 Tsann Kuen Enterprise and Fayaque electronic stores became the first outlets to officially sell the Surface RT and Surface Pro in the country.
