Despite severe stock shortages and a high price the Microsoft Surface pro has still managed to make it onto Best Buy’s Bet Seller list, currently sitting in 4th spot behind much, much cheaper Amazon Kindle and Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Windows 8 tablet has been seeing severe supply shortages, but Microsoft has promised to restock this weekend, and is currently taking pre-orders for delivery later in the month. Interestingly on the same page the Surface RT tablet holds 12th spot, suggesting the Windows 8 tablet may see better success than its more limited sibling. See the Best Buy page here. The Examiner has interviewed some new Surface Pro owners 2 days after they took their Windows 8 tablets home, and found them pretty satisfied with their devices. "I’ve had this thing by my side for the past three days," says Jesse Fuentes, an engineer in Los Angeles." It is by far the best device I have ever owned. I can do everything I can with this that I could my MacBook Air and iPad," he continues. Yong Lee, a marketing manager,  also fell in love. "I am more of an Apple person than Microsoft. But the Surface Pro is a better piece of hardware than Apple has ever made," Lee says. Lee agrees that the battery life is subpar, but it’s not a disaster. "This is a laptop replacement, not a tablet replacement," says high school math teacher Jennifer Parsons. "The battery life is on par with most ultrabooks. Students ...

Surface Pro has launched, which means you can (maybe) head to your local Microsoft Retail Store to finally pick up your Surface Pro. But before you head out the door with an empty Surface in hand, you might want to take advantage of the bundled deals that are available.  What is Microsoft Complete? Complete is Microsoft’s insurance and tech support program for the Surface. Unlike other extended warranties, you get quite a few things included for $99 for 2 years: Accidental damage coverage Factory defects coverage Tech support that includes unlimited support at the Answers Desk in-store, virus/spyware removal, hardware/software install, etc. and unlimited support over the phone The really good thing about Complete for Surface Pro is that, unlike the one for Surface RT, there is no deductible and there is no limit to check-ins (versus a limit of 2 on the RT). So that means that if something happens ...

The Surface Pro Windows 8 tablet went on sale yesterday, and despite the rather negative reviews has been snapped up by fans, with the 128 GB version of the tablet selling out in a mere 7 hours at Microsoft’ Online Store. Of course early sales does not really tell us what the real demand for his rather expensive tablet will be, and given Microsoft’s propensity to not release numbers I don’t think we will ever find out. Will our readers be picking up a Surface Pro? Let us know why or why not below. Thanks Martin for the tip. ...

With all the hype around Surface Pro, it’s easy to forget that other OEMs have also been building Windows 8 tablets with fast Intel Ivy Bridge processors. One of the best – and certainly the most competitively priced – of these devices is the Acer W700, though it’s had its fair share of issues since launch. It was delayed, it was (and still is) experiencing supply issues, and the included plastic dock is clumsy and not very portable. However, Acer has apparently started to ship a revamped keyboard case with the device, as posters on Acer’s support forums have noted. The new keyboard case consists of three parts: a microfiber sleeve to which a silicon case and the keyboard – which connects over Bluetooth and can be charged with an included microUSB cable – are glued. Inserting and removing the W700 from the silicon case certainly isn’t as effortless as ...

While Acer has blamed their poor sales on Windows 8 rather than the lack of supplying hardware the public wants, Lenovo, who has been on the forefront of creating great hybrid designs and marketing them well, has been reaping the rewards of supporting the new OS. Lenovo has just had a record-breaking quarter, growing their market share and profits despite the shrinking PC market. CEO Yang Yuanqing is quoted as saying that “new technologies like Windows 8, ultrabooks, and convertibles will drive new demand. 2013 will be better than 2012.” So Acer, how about less winning and some more designing?
