Net Applications today released their latest worldwide browser market share stats for the month of June. Internet Explorer market share is up 0.21%, from 58.17 percent to 58.38 percent. Among the Internet Explorer versions, IE11 showed a modest growth by increasing by 0.2% from 17.01 percent to 17.03 percent. Internet Explorer 8 remains the most popular browser in the market with about 20.89% market share. Developer’s nightmare IE6 is now at 3.55%, we expect the number to go down in the coming months as Microsoft has ended the support for Windows XP in which it was the default browser. Among other browsers, Google Chrome gained nearly 2% to grab 19.34% of the browser market while Firefox lost few percentage to now hold 15.54% of the market. ...

New numbers from Net Applications for the month of June show growing OS market for Windows 7 and Windows XP while Windows 8 saw a slight decline. Windows 7 continues to dominate at the top with the OS now over 50% marketshare (50.55 percent in June), up from 50.06 percent in May. Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 combined is now at 12.54% down from 12.64% last month. Windows XP saw a slight increase to 25.31% down from 25.27% last month. Mac OSX 10.9 currently holds a 3.95% share, while Linux holds a 1.74% share. Windows Vista holds a market share at 2.95%. Windows 8/Windows 8.1 is not getting the right momentum which Windows 7 enjoyed during its launch. Last month, we reported that Chinese government made a strange move by announcing the ban of Microsoft’s Windows 8 OS in government computers. As per reports, the ban was due to the notice on the use of energy-saving products. The official Xinhua news agency claimed that it was due to security concerns. Following the bad, Microsoft continued providing Windows 7 to these agencies and even defended the security features in Windows 8. Today, a Chinese media reported that Microsoft Office productivity suite is banned in parts of the Chinese central government and its subordinated departments. As usual, the reason was mentioned as the act of ensuring information security. The government has not commented about this ban yet. Microsoft was expected to announce a Surface Mini device at an press event on May 20th. But, it never happened as Microsoft chose to announce only the Surface Pro 3 device. Later we reported that Microsoft decided to delay it for some reasons. America’s second largest school district made a big announcement last year that they will be giving all its students iPads. While students and teachers community welcomed the news, many education analysts questioned the effectiveness of iPads in classrooms. Now, Los Angeles school district has realized that iPads are not the best in the business when it comes to students. They are now allowing schools to choose from six different Windows laptop computers for their students instead of iPads.
