Add this to the list of really interesting projects from Microsoft Research. Project Ripple is a foot-controlled and gesture based infotainment platform. At the Augmented World Expo, Microsoft demoed this Project Ripple which can be used in various ways. While most of the mall projector games will have one screen projected from the above, Project Ripple will have an additional screen before the user. User will be able to control the second screen using his gestures detected by Microsoft Kinect. Microsoft believes this system can deliver information, create interactive ads or could be used to give presentations at special events. The real beauty is that Microsoft is making this platform open source and free to use. Also there are releasing a free drag-and-drop editor to create new custom experiences and menus, with support for Flash, HTML, PPT and video content. Read more from the link below. via: Engadget ...

International Data Corporation (IDC) yesterday lowered its 2014 worldwide tablet plus 2-in-1 forecast to 245.4 million units. The main cause of the slow down are customers are using the older devices longer than expected and phablets are trying to replace the low-end of the tablet market as consumers are trying to own a single device that can serve both as tablet and a phone. “Two major issues are causing the tablet market to slow down. First, consumers are keeping their tablets, especially higher-cost models from major vendors, far longer than originally anticipated. And when they do buy a new one they are often passing their existing tablet off to another member of the family,” said Tom Mainelli, Program Vice President, Devices & Displays at IDC. “Second, the rise of phablets – smartphones with 5.5-inch and larger screens – are causing many people to second-guess tablet purchases as the larger screens ...

How much display resolution can Surface Pro 3 mini display port drive? Hi, this is Pete from the Surface Team. The mDP port on the device can drive a 4K display – this is true for the i7, i5, and i3 – while still running the Surface Pro 3 display. Why Surface Pro 3, not some other tablet or laptop? Great question- high level, our statement says it all. It is the tablet that can replace the laptop. This is the one product you need to do it all. It acts as a tablet, and can be used as a laptop.
