In April, Games continued to be the most popular category for all devices, followed by other categories with significant download share including Entertainment, Social, Music & Videos, and Tools On Windows, like our previous trends updates, Social is the #1 category with nearly 2x average downloads per app than the second category. Photos, Productivity, and Games are the next categories with the highest opportunity. Microsoft and 1776 last year announced a partnership agreement that will bring Microsoft’s industry, business, and technical resources to the world’s most promising startups in the heart of Washington, DC. Today, they announced the opening of Microsoft Innovation Lounge at 1776 in Washington. Judson Althoff, president of Microsoft North America, and Donna Harris, co-founder of 1776 helped in creating this new project. Yesterday, we reported that Chinese government made a strange move by announcing the ban of Microsoft’s Windows 8 OS in government computers. As per reports, the ban was due to the notice on the use of energy-saving products. The official Xinhua news agency claimed that it was due to security concerns. “The Chinese government obviously cannot ignore the risks of running OS without guaranteed technical support,” it reported. It is not yet clear on what exactly is the cause of Windows 8 ban.
