We have heard many rumors about the upcoming Surface Mini tablet from Microsoft. One of the main thing was, it will run on Qualcomm Snapdragon processor as opposed to Nvdia Tegra processor in Surface 2. Also, the device was rumored to have a 8-inch device. Another report claimed that the device will be marketed a “consumption-class” device that is also ideal for note taking.  As with the current Surface 2, the Surface Mini is expected to ship with Office.  The Surface Mini will also support an an active digitizer and theoretically could support a Wacom digitizer with the correct drivers.  It may be a pen/stylus similar to that found on the Surface Pro devices. The Windows OS we install on our tablets, PCs and servers takes several gigabytes of space to run. With the increasing adoption of mobile devices by consumers, it is necessary to make Windows run on a mobile device that will have less than 4GB of storage. For that, Microsoft has created a subset of the Windows technology base used to build operating systems that have a smaller footprint than the full Windows Client or Server. These smaller operating systems is in the order megabytes – not gigabytes. A recent job listing revealed that Windows Phone is the first product that was developed using this technology. It was today reported that Microsoft will build its next billion dollar data center in southeast West Des Moines in Iowa. This upcoming data center will be one of the Microsoft’s largest centers in the U.S., according to plans unveiled today. This “Project Alluvion” is valued at $1.1 billion and will take 154 acres in West Des Moines’ southeast corner. Microsoft already has a data center in the region and the total investment in West Des Moines to just under $2 billion. Microsoft will get incentives from the state government by few millions, but Microsoft has promised to offer 84 jobs in this area. During its meeting Friday, the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board approved granting Microsoft a $20.3 million sales tax rebate for the project. That tax rebate would be available until 2021.
