A new report from Telegraph claimed that 3 top investors in Microsoft is now pressurizing Bill Gates to step down from his position as chairman of Microsoft. They feel that Microsoft is now spending more time in his philanthropic foundation and less time on Microsoft as a chainman. Japanese OEM Sharp has joined the growing list of Windows tablet OEMs. At CEATEC show in Japan, Sharp announced its new Windows 8 tablet named the Mebius Pad, featuring a 10.1-inch IGZO panel with 2,560 x 1,600 resolution. It will run on Intel quad-core Atom processor and will come with Windows 8.1 and Office pre-installed. Also the device is water and dust-proof and comes with LTE support in Japan. Acer released the first 8-inch Windows 8 device Iconia W3 few months back and device is now selling for just under $300. Even though the device provides great value for the money, it got poor reviews due to two main things. First, the poor LCD display. Second, the last generation Atom processor. Acer has listened to both of these complaints and an updated product named Iconia W4 is coming next month. The Iconia W4 will have same design as W3, but will come with 1.33GHz Atom Z3740 processor and a much improved “wide view angle” display. Few days back, we reported that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer gave an emotional speech at his last annual company meeting held in Seattle this week. Steve Ballmer was moved to tears at one point of his speech. Microsoft first announced Windows on ARM project 2 years back. Since then, they branded it Windows RT and started licensing it to OEMs. In fact, Microsoft itslef has become Windows RT OEM. Since its launch in October 2012, Windows RT devices are struggling to find a place in the fastest growing tablet market. Asus and Samsung discontinued their Windows RT efforts soon after the poor market reception. Lenovo was selling Yoga 11 Windows RT devices until it released Yoga 11S Intel based device. Dell and Microsoft continued selling XPS 10 and Surface RT devices respectively. Today, Dell has also announced that XPS 10 product is unavailable.
