We reported earlier on how the Start Button might work in Windows 8.1. Paul Thurrott has posted images of how the start button looks in current internal builds. It is largely as expected. The start button will be on by default on Windows 8.1, but will can be turned off by users who do not want it.  The start button will look very similar  to the one in the charms bar, but will not be visible until the user moves the mouse down to the lower left corner.   Users will also be able to configure what the button can open, either the normal Metro Home Screen, or the “All Apps” view instead.   See Thurrott’s full post where he has more screenshots including one of desktop wallpaper on the Start Screen. ...

Sources close to Paul Thurrott have told him that Microsoft’s internal goal is to have the Surface maintain control 50% percent of all Windows tablet sales in the coming year. In a new Windows 8 ad, Microsoft pokes fun of the iPad via Siri. The gloves are clearly off and Microsoft is taking the fight right to Cupertino.  Interestingly enough Microsoft opted to use an ASUS tablet instead of their on Surface in this advertisement. This marks one of the first ads where Microsoft directly goes after the competition, showing feature to feature comparisons. Microsoft today announced that next generation Kinect for Windows is coming next year. The new Kinect is capable for recording 1080p videos with advanced CMOS sensors that can record color images upto 30fps. All these themes are based on landscapes of various countries including Alaska, New Zealand ,Sweden, etc,. They have also added a new tab to the Desktop backgrounds page, specifically for panoramic wallpapers.
