Microsoft Research today spoke about their Project Adam at the Microsoft Research Faculty Summit. It is an state of an art machine learning and artificial intelligence program that enable softwares to visually recognize any object. Project Adam and its object classification is built on a massive dataset of 14 million images from the Web and sites such as Flickr, made up of more than 22,000 categories drawn from user-generated tags by Microsoft resesarcher Trishul Chilimbi  and his team. Microsoft claims that this program is twice more accurate in its object recognition and 50 times faster than other systems. To show this system in action, Microsoft used a live dog on stage and Project Adam powered phone recognized the breed of the dog. Earlier this week, we reported that Microsoft is giving away Intel Galileo board to developers who sign up for the program. Today, Microsoft detailed the roll out of the program on their official blog. Microsoft has updated their website Windowsondevices.com withSDK document and examples.  Through this program we are introducing a new Windows Developer for IoT Portal, with documentation and examples to support the developer kits we are starting to ship in small batches. These developer kits include a Galileo board and preview Windows image that supports the standard Arduino Wiring API set and a subset of Win32 API. This Windows image does not yet support Galileo boards outside of our program. Dubai-based low cost carrier Flydubai has joined many other organizations in adopting Windows 8 based tablets. Flydubai is now using Windows 8 based tablets at Dubai International Airport to facilitate passenger check-in. Because of this Windows 8 based solution, Flydubai has reduced the check-in time to two minutes per passenger. The airline’s new app connects to their backend services and is integrated with a passport scanner and printer. It aims to ease the check-in process by allowing staff to scan passenger information, assign seats and issue boarding passes on the spot. This is getting crazy! After so many reports that Surface Mini project is put on hold at Microsoft, @evleaks today started the discussion again that Microsoft has resumed the production of Surface Mini tablet with the expected release in Summer. Microsoft was expected to announce a Surface Mini device at an press event on May 20th. But, it never happened as Microsoft chose to announce only the Surface Pro 3 device. Later we reported that Microsoft decided to delay it for some reasons. According to Bloomberg, Microsoft was not confident that the product offered enough differentiation from the competitors to release in the market. Net Applications today released their latest worldwide browser market share stats for the month of June. Internet Explorer market share is up 0.21%, from 58.17 percent to 58.38 percent. Among the Internet Explorer versions, IE11 showed a modest growth by increasing by 0.2% from 17.01 percent to 17.03 percent. Internet Explorer 8 remains the most popular browser in the market with about 20.89% market share. Developer’s nightmare IE6 is now at 3.55%, we expect the number to go down in the coming months as Microsoft has ended the support for Windows XP in which it was the default browser.
