Microsoft is expected to reveal Surface Mini which will be based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and will have a full stylus support as well. Microsoft today started roll out of an update to Windows Store that will provide an enhanced user experience for users in navigation and browsing of apps. It also allows developers to do price promotions on their apps, and more to further improve app discoverability and minimize customer confusion. Microsoft has now extended the deadline to June 10th, so customers will continue to receive security updates even though they are in Windows 8.1. Microsoft reported its latest financial quarter results last week and it was better than what many analysts expected. As Microsoft is transforming into a Devices and Services unit, the results of the newly formed Devices unit is an important one. As per the recent SEC filing by Microsoft, Microsoft is still losing money on every Surface device sold. The sales of the tablet has not hit the volume to make it profitable. For the quarter ended on March 31st, Microsoft lost about $45 million in Surface sales and about $300 million for the nine months ended March 31, 2014. It was today reported that Microsoft will build its next billion dollar data center in southeast West Des Moines in Iowa. This upcoming data center will be one of the Microsoft’s largest centers in the U.S., according to plans unveiled today. This “Project Alluvion” is valued at $1.1 billion and will take 154 acres in West Des Moines’ southeast corner. Microsoft already has a data center in the region and the total investment in West Des Moines to just under $2 billion. Microsoft will get incentives from the state government by few millions, but Microsoft has promised to offer 84 jobs in this area. During its meeting Friday, the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board approved granting Microsoft a $20.3 million sales tax rebate for the project. That tax rebate would be available until 2021.
