One of the main advantages of Microsoft’s gaming console like Xbox One is the Xbox Live gaming service. Millions of players use Xbox LIVE service to enjoy their gaming everyday and it is the largest gaming service in the world. Xbox Live Operations Centre is the team at Microsoft which handles the day-to-day operations of Xbox LIVE service to keep it online all the time. And looming ominously above it all is a massive red digital timer. “Any time there’s a major incident going on that’s either user-impacting or we think it might be user-impacting, we start that clock,” warns Microsoft Gaming Ninja (seriously, that’s actually his title) Eric Neustadter. “We use that to make sure we’re doing the right things at each point in our process. We have playbooks for ...

During Xbox One announcement, Microsoft made it clear that Xbox 360 games won’t be compatible with Xbox One. Microsoft could either build Xbox 360 emulator support into Xbox One or provide a game streaming service like Gaikai. Last year, Microsoft said that current network speed restrictions across the world is making the cloud streaming technology “too problematic” even though they demoed an experimental technology which would be able to stream Xbox games to Windows 8 and Windows Phone handsets at its annual company meeting. During a session by partner development lead Frank Savage on the Xbox One’s use of Windows technology at Microsoft’s Build developer conference, Frank confirmed that Microsoft is still looking through how to emulate Xbox 360 on Xbox One platform.
