We are just five days from the Xbox: Game On briefing at E3, but that has not stopped Microsoft from making major announcements for Xbox One and Xbox 360. Today they announced that more than 45 new entertainment app experiences are coming to Xbox One and Xbox 360 globally. The list includes Twitter integration, Vine, HBO GO, ShowTime Anytime, Comedy Central, Major League Gaming (MLG), and more are scheduled to launch by the end of this holiday season. Microsoft last month revealed that Xbox One system update coming in the month of June will allow users to connect external storage devices which are higher than 256GB to their Xbox One and install apps, games and others on it. This update is now rolling out to users now. Along with External Storage support, this update now removes the Xbox LIVE Gold requirement for Entertainment apps. I guess Microsoft should be pretty confident on their E3 announcements. Because, they are continuing to make major announcements every other week despite the fact that E3 event is just a week away. Microsoft today revealed that their next installment in their flagship racing series Forza Horizon 2 is in development for Xbox One and Xbox 360 and due for release this fall. Previously, Forza Horizon was released for Xbox 360 and Forza Motorsport 5 for Xbox One. This Forza Horizon 2 will be available on both the platforms and it is being developed by Horizon 1 studio Playground Games collaborating closely with the Motorsport team at Turn 10 Studios. Joe Belfiore And David Treadwell are corporate vice presidents in Microsoft’s Operating Systems Group. Joe Belfiore is responsible for the user experience while David Treadwell works on the engineering of the core of the operating system. Basically, these guys are in charge of the front end and back end of operating systems, including the Windows PC, tablet and phone platforms. Previously, Joe was part of Windows Phone team and David was in Xbox software engineering team. The new “One Microsoft” strategy has brought them together which will allow unified strategy for product design to schedules in the operating systems group.
