Microsoft revealed that it would sell a commercial version of a Kinect for Windows SDK to businesses from early in 2012 in an interview to FT.  Dennis Durkin, Xbox chief financial officer said that, “Once you bring down that price point, all of a sudden it opens up a bunch of new developer opportunities,” he said. As well as academic interest, Microsoft has been working on a pilot programme with more than 200 companies for use of the Kinect across 25 industries, from healthcare to education, advertising and the automotive industry. “It’s likely that many ‘killer apps’ will be developed within their respective fields,”. Xbox is partnering with Sesame Workshop and National Geographic for producing the next generation of television content which is interactive, live-action, Downloadable, linear episodes run like a normal television show. This new type of content allows children to play games with familiar characters and don virtual costumes that mold to their bodies and play around with the show’s environment. Microsoft is also working on a project called "Project Columbia,” which is a series of such children books. As analysts predicted earlier, Xbox 360 took the No. 1 console spot in the U.S. for the month September. This is not the first time for Xbox 360, they have done it for 15 of the past 16 months. Xbox is now holding 42% of the current generation gaming console product. The total retails spend rose to $534 million to leave its competitors in dust.  Holding 42 percent share of the overall current-generation console market, Xbox 360 sold 438,000 units in September, maintaining the number-one console spot in the U.S. for 2011. This marks the seventh consecutive month Xbox 360 has had more than 40 percent of the current-generation console market share. According to Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter, Xbox outsold both Sony and Nintendo in September sales of both hardware and software. He estimated that Microsoft sold 360,000 Xbox 360 units in the U.S. last month while Sony sold 260,000 PS3 units and Nintendo sold 190,000 Wii units. A similar case goes for the software numbers too. According to the estimates Xbox 360 software sales hit $306 million last month, easily eclipsing the PlayStation 3′s $165 million in sales. Gematsu has spotted several LinkedIn profiles of Microsoft employees who are working on this future platform.
